Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Death Makes Angels of Us All

death makes angels of us all and gives us wings
where we had shoulders smooth as ravens claws.

I must admit I think I am quite good at handling puppies even when I didn’t have anyone properly handle me. Mother was not one to be so calm and encouraging. Each time she gave me an order there was no affection in her voice or any sense that she cared. I cared for these two pups even though they were not my own and we were not related by blood. I was not such a big softy to them. No, I was fair. I encouraged them when I needed to and I got after them when they needed it. I hope my Savior does not mind me teaching the children how to hunt, much less, show them what death was like. They needed to know and I was taught before my Mother officially had me weaned from her. Surely these puppies will catch on, especially if their Father is Tobias. I am not bothered at all that the shadow looking male runs away from me, but I do not wish him to be so far away. I am delighted that the white and smoky looking male takes pleasure in my presence, he is always so inquisitive and I find myself always eager to please him, to show him what he wants to know.

As I lay on the ground with the dead rabbit between my paws I show the two boys how I killed the creature. I am sure they would catch on quickly and when I leave the rabbit for the two of them to approach and try I find myself most greatly amused. When I was a pup I was not as cautious as them. Perhaps it was because my Mother’s tone did not carry a ring of patience in it for me to adjust and figure things out. Instead I performed the action to the best of my abilities. Violet eyes slide to see the approach of the darker pelted boy and when he quickly swipes at the rabbit I let out a soft giggle as I see both boys leap away from the dead creature. I find myself half tempted to flick my paw behind the rabbit, so the boys would think it was truly alive, but I did not want to frighten them. Instead I wait as the lighter male attempts to sniff it, my crimson ear twitches at the odd vocalization of the darker boy and I shake my head.

“No, it is not broke, it is dead, just like your brother says. Once something is dead it never moves.”

I explain it to them gently, a lesson that they must know. Whether they kill a prey or another wolf, once you kill something they can never return. It is always best I think to kill only when you must. It is a very bold lesson to teach ones so young, but we are predators and we must know these things. I give a soft encouraging bark for the dark male to approach closer and try. I turn my head slightly to watch how the lighter one makes his quiet approach and gently seizes the rabbits neck pressing down and I cannot help but smile and nod with approval. His moment was slow, but this was all right, as long as he knew the action and was aware of the target I think it will be fine. Though really if they are going to learn then they will need to go on a hunt, but I do not think I can do this. I would need to call them out by name and tell them what they did right or wrong, I do not want them to get confused on what they should or shouldn’t do. I ponder this predicament as I think allowed.

“I’d take you two hunting, but you two need a name, something to call yourself.”

I lift my head upwards, somewhat proudly, as I look down at the two. Perhaps if I gave them an example of my name it might encourage them to come up with their own. Their Mother does not speak. I have not heard her say anything once or even give her name, and so I do not think I am invading on what a Mother should do. I promised to help the puppies of my Savior, as a way to pay my debt, and I think helping them come with a name to call themselves is okay. Violet eyes speckled with light blue look down at the two boys as I speak gently once more.

“My Mother named me Raven, like the big black bird that flies and leads us to fresh prey, or eats after we are done with our meals. I am not sure what names you two want, or even what your Mother’s name is.”
