I can feel my mother falling apart at the seams as I wrap my neck around her. Somehow I knew that she couldn't take the news standing on her own because she would fall apart. I knew that she'd need someone to hold her together like glue and duck tape while her world fell down around her. While Heyel and her never appeared to be that close, I new better because I always admired him above all. And I could see the same look in her eyes every time she was near him. She loved him greater than any daughter and he was her hero. He was her idol, and now he's gone. I know my father will be here any minute to take over but for now I don't mind being my mother's comfort for now.

I can feel the wet warmth of her tears on my fur and I only hold her tighter, closing my eyes, knowing that I have to be her strength right now because she can't be and that's okay. I've heard the stories of their past, how my grandmother died in the meteor crash and how Heyel raised her. Heyel was a strong leader over Trenus, I'm sure. He told me his stories but I can imagine even without them because I got to know the wolf that he was even as mother's shadow. He was still a king at heart no matter what. Even as she starts to fall, I move my shoulders with her to cushion her so that her fall isn't so ungraceful. It just wouldn't do for a queen to plop down now would it? And as she howls, I pin my ears to the sound but I know it's her only way of letting it all out and so I give her this moment.

Of course I can hear the foot falls of my father soon after, the worry and heartbreak on his face enough to rip me to shreds. He looks to Isola on the ground and I can see the turmoil in his eyes. He doesn't know even in his wounded state if he needs to simply hold her or kill whoever hurt her. But then he looks to me and my face must say it all because he simply nods and sinks to the ground beside Isola, pushing himself as close to her as he can, smothering her with his support and love as he burrows into her fur. This moment feels almost too intimate and I shift my weight. What's a guy to do?
