The dark creature stared up at the heavens, azure stargazers fixed on their namesake. It was on the cool nights like these, the deep soft darkness of the atmosphere cradling him like a child, that Serris felt truly in awe of the world around him. He had always respected nature; its power, its beauty, its kindness and its cruelty. But he rarely took the time to just sit in it, listening, waiting, being. He took a breath of the night air, icy in his lungs. But Serris was no child. He was an Alpha, a King, with a long rule and a peaceful stretch of forest that few called home. To be honest, the ebony regal was happy that way; too much chaos and there was no sanity, no room to think or breath.
The woods had been dead for the longest time, but now two wandering souls resided within, finding their own place within the quiet borders of Munashii. It was both strange and familiar to the ruler, memories of a glories reign long ago flooding his mind with nostalgia that he didn’t want. He could remember too many faces, too many creatures for whom his heart had melted, thawed by the glow of their very soul. Now they were all gone. Serris was alone. He turned his head, staring down absently at his shoulder, knowing his heart had once again solidified with their absence. He pondered it quietly for a while, feeling the rhythm of the night pulse around him, the mix of scents and sounds barely registering in the back of his brain.
It was only when the crisp, throaty sound of a howl rose over the treetops that Serris snapped out of his coma, swinging his cranium to face the origin of the call, charcoal ears standing at alert. A visitor in the middle of the night? He rose, somewhat grumpily, to his paws and began the trek to the borders, feeling his tense muscles loosen as the minutes ticked by. It was a peaceful journey, and soon he was upon the edges of his territory, scenting for the location of the stranger. Her oddly-hued eyes were the first thing he saw, finding the green of them strange (as he had never seen too many wolves with grassy irises). He padded over to her lowered form slowly, banner raised behind him yet not excessively so, movements smooth and lithe as he sized up the creature before him. Finding a comfortable distance, the warboy stopped, staring down in silence. He was in no hurry to break this beautiful silence around him, and yet he was obligated to do so. “Lovely night,” he stated calmly, the lyrics neither a question or a demand, merely a statement to fill the void between them. He waited expectantly for whatever reply this lady may offer.
[OOC: Yeah, this post sucked so much, I’m so sorry TT^TT]
