Curious, indeed. The closer I came the more interested I became in the girl who sat upon the borders. At first it seemed as though she hadn't heard me, but once I moved through the flowers her wide eyes focused on me. Large, dished ears perked towards me as I spoke to her, and as I came to a stop within the comfort of my home's periphery I noticed the finer details in her appearance. Her face was slender, and even though I couldn't really see while she was sitting down I could tell that trait carried out through the rest of her frame. I could not help but envy her slim legs, thinking that I would never look as feminine as her. True, my young bodice was lithe and perfect for hunting, and my fur was sleek and soft to the touch, not to mention the stunning white that lined my eyes and accented their perfect green and turquoise hues...but just look at this girl! If she were to stand up I just
knew that her abdomen would tuck up in a flattering way that mine never would. How perfectly unfair. But I bet she wasn't as good of a hunter as me. And what was she doing here anyways? She certainly didn't look like a wolf wanting to join a pack. Though what does that really look like? Shouldn't she be submitting to me in some way if that was the case? I hadn't really dealt with border patrol or recruiting newcomers. I preferred to remain out along the coast or within the rolling dunes rather than jogging along the borders all day long. That was something I had most certainly not inherited from my dad.
Her response made my head tilt to the side slightly, before glancing back at the flowers I had just passed through. Those were called poppies, right? She had a strange way of speaking, but maybe those were what she'd come for. I hadn't really learned much about the uses of plants while I was growing up; I mean, Mom was an assassin and Mum was Tesseract's right hand wolf. There were way more important things for them to be teaching us. But I had to admit, they were rather pretty with their striking red petals. I looked back to the curious girl, she'd said something about not for what they do. So maybe she just thought they were pretty like I did? At least she had a good eye, even if she spoke a bit funny. Rumor had it there were plenty of wolves with strange speech patterns in Moladion. I could speak both the common tongue and Latin, so I could usually understand most. But as she spoke again I thought that maybe she wasn't lost in translation so much as her words were just riddles. Oh! Maybe this would be good practice for me for when spring came around and I could finally fulfill the other half of the Trapper's duties - stealing.
"
Walls and walls, hm?" I said under my breath, echoing her words back to her while I tried to puzzle over what she might mean. Before she'd spoken she had looked like she was about to cross into Glorall, but then refrained. So distracted was I by trying to solve the little riddle that had been put to me that I didn't really notice the way she didn't really look at me, because I didn't really look straight back at her either. I was more concerned with myself. I walked over to the flowers, pacing back and forth in front of them. She clearly wanted the poppies, but was it simply the heavy scent markers of Eden's claim to these lands that kept her from coming for them? Was this the wall she spoke of? Swiftly I leaned down and plucked up a single flower, trotting over to the other girl and dropping it at her feet. I stood back, a smug look on my face as I grinned at her. She'd have to do better than that to stump me! "
Anything else?" I asked with a flick of my black tipped tail.
