Dear A.W.;
Sad to say, I can _usually_ count on our authors to purchase a -- A -- book. As one writer admitted, "I like to put it on my brag shelf."
Honest to Ghod, that is about the total of our sales. WhP does not make money -- the cost of book printing plus $10 for each writer creates the total price of the book. The blessed authors who buy maybe two copies make up for the ones who don't buy any. Sigh.
It seems that there is so much FREE entertainment on the Net that people are reluctant to spend even modest sums for our fiction.
I know there are a number of book review sites, but I am reluctant to subject our writers to what may simply be the mauling of amateur critics. I know that sounds snobbish, and I guess it is. But I have seen movie review sites with the reviews written by people whose credentials stretch to the price of the ticket. In short, they are not qualified.
Do you know any _qualified_ book review sites? BTW, of course it costs us the price of a book to send them one to review, and our break-even margin is so narrow, I am reluctant to do this unless we have good reason to believe the critic measures up to our books.
I appreciate your thoughts on this, A.W. As you can see, I am somewhat baffled by the whole situation. Thanks for chipping in your ideas.
