The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

Find Me In The Darkness

Athene did not often find herself surprised. She had seen much in her life, for it was often that she slunk around in the shadows. Her father’s teachings allowed her to blend in and hide in the darkness even though her pelt was so lightly shaded. And it was there, in the shadows, that she witnessed the lives and spectacles that others lived through. Sitting still, quietly observing others, it was as if she was the only one in an empty movie theatre. Honey orbs had watched many films take place before her – the comedies, the romances, the thrillers, the horrors, and the unknown. Occasionally, she interrupted the scene when there was an opportunity for a free meal, a new acquaintance, a life to save. But usually, she just found herself entertained. Watching their adventurers and sated her own desire for her own adventures, because for much of her life, she had been her sister’s keeper. Hellene was clumsy, and loud, and Athene had spent the majority of her life saving Hellene from various situations that she had gotten caught up in, be it a snare, or a heavily weighted fight. Yes… the timberess had been living vicariously through others for a while.

Until now.

Now with Zev, she could be exactly who she was. Her mate never needed saving directly… they got into every situation together. If they got into trouble, it was together. If they experienced paradise, it was together. They complemented each other perfectly… and finally Athene felt fulfilled.

But even with all of this in her past and all she had seen… never had her rhymes been answered in kind. A shocked look painted its way across her façade for the entirety of his monologue. He paused and Athene closed her maw, realizing that she had been slack-jawed the whole time, mandible hanging like a fool. When he took to circling her, her gaze followed his motions until finally he questions her as to her uniquely painted pelt. The femme shook her head, regaining her calm and swallowed before speaking, her gaze drifting to her coat. It was true – she was unique. She was not the typical timber-wolf with browns and reds and whites. Her parents had both been true to breed, so the only thing she could guess at was that she was a mutant. An enigma in the schemes of DNA coupling.

My markings are my own
No one else’s that I know of.
Even in my family, my pelt is all alone
But it fits me like a glove.

My sister is a more normal hue
Of timberesses as our parents were
And became identical to mother as she grew
But still my father considered her a cur.

Within the pack that as a child I called home
There were no ranks but instead jobs
Each wolf completed their tasks before gloam
It prevented power plays and the creation of snobs.

And so it is quite indeed strange here
The hierarchy and the ranks
I’m unused to it and the associated tiers
But I’ll take what I’m give and say my thanks.

This is my home, where I plan to stay
Where Zev and I will live, love, grow old.
I would enjoy the responsibility, but come what may
We will not leave these lands that we have patrolled.

Tell me now, if you will do me the honor
Of your own past, mother, brother, and father.

She fell silent, feeling oddly intrigued by the brute before her whose wit may have matched her own.
