Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Ariel had snuck away from his father a few minutes or so ago, bounding from the spot where the makeshift den was. He just wanted to go out and explore by himself, though his father was simply too protective at times to let him be out of sight much. Or do a lot of interesting things that he wanted to do. Alas, Ariel was still a happy creature, despite the holding back that he faced, and kind of a goof, since he lacked a certain grace when he moved. If he wasn't tripping over something every seven minutes, then that was something to be proud of. He blamed it on his paws, which seemed just too big for the rest of his body. He often caught himself frowning at the appendages after a fall, wishing he had half the grace that his father did.

But wishing wasn't getting him anywhere. Ariel still had big paws and limbs that acted more like noodles on bad days than like legs. Though maybe it also had to do with all the fur he had. Even though he should be getting leaner, his fur was still thick and fluffy, making his look like a puffball rather than a wolf pup. It was sort of obnoxious, but he wasn't going to let these things bring him down (to stay, anyway)! He was just like anyone else, wanting to make friends and fit in, to avoid the questions of why he didn't have a mother or siblings, and have adventures! Which was what he was trying to do now, without the watchful eye of his father on him. It made him feel pretty free right now, and that was cool, too.

He was careful not to go too close to the water right now, but Ariel was eyeing the way it rushed along, wondering if the current would carry him away if he were to step into it. Probably, or it would pull him under. What caught his attention was a grasshopper that seemed to be 'on it's last legs' and slowing down with the closing in of Winter. It was the perfect thing to go pouncing at, and thus Ariel went, trying to capture the little creature with his paws, though he was also trying not to actually harm it at the same time. Which made him look rather funny pouncing then falling and rolling about before adjusting himself and going for that grasshopper again. The same general result occurred in doing this, of course, but he'd be at it possibly until he ran out of breath.
