No more than a moment had passed after my calling howl had faded on the breeze than a short answer came in reply. He was on his way, though it seemed from some distance. Perhaps if circumstances were different - if it were a friend I waited for and not a stranger - I might have sat down while I waited. Given the state of Moladion as a whole, however, I remained on the feet, tail drifting back and forth with ease over my hindquarters. Time idled by and the far off sound of the ocean crashing against the shores was the soundtrack to the waiting game. It did not take overly long before the form of a large male appeared over the dunes, making his way steadily towards me. Even as he assesses me I am quick to do much the same, and once more I am struck with a certain level of familiarity. It took me a moment, but once he stood before me and I met his eyes I was able to call upon the memory. A long time ago, when we were nothing more than adolescents, a white wolf with red splashed across his chest and his silent companion had come to Spirane, curious of the mountain pups' impressions of them - based on looks alone. How strange it was to finally have a name to put to the face that I had contributed no real thought to in the past six or so years.
His words root me in the present, however, and I respond in kind with a slight nod of my own head. The situation at hand was something quite precarious, a situation that could teeter one way or the other in favor or against any future relation between our packs. I remembered what Pan had said to me about a wolf who showed no real preference for...well...anything.
Cunning, he had said. But as I told Haziel, I would form my own opinions of Eden this day. "
Eden," I replied, keeping the same levelheadedness to the current approach of our conversation. "
Indeed; Jericho was otherwise occupied as well. I suppose that just the two of us will have to suffice." There is the most subtle of quirks to my expression, almost like a tiny smirk though it only just lays beneath the surface. I am sure he will not miss it.
Today was meant to be an occasion for testing the waters between Eden and myself. If it was that we were to be any sort of allies in the future, the foundation for such a thing would be set today. I had told Pan that I intended to forge a treaty, if terms were favorable to both sides. Ever the astute wolf, my advisor had reminded me that my pack had much to give. Could the same be said for Eden's Glorall? I intended to find out. "
I am curious, Eden, what it was about Glorall that enticed you and yours to set down roots here." For a moment my gaze wandered, drifting over the terrain while the other wolf was visible in my periphery. Glorall was a beautiful land, but what about the pack that inhabited it? Had Eden come here only for power, because he saw weakness in an aging king, or was there something more? Mahogany eyes moved easily back to his face, curious what kind of answer - if any - I might receive.
