Simmering resentment towards the world burned through her paws, melting the snow with every step she took. Her mind navigated its way through her thoughts as she habitually picked her way along the trails that winded themselves around the mountains. Each step and every moment she plotted and planned where she would go, and how she would find her family. Find what she had so saddeningly lost.

One ear flicked back when she heard the soft pads of another wolf coming up behind her and she promptly ignored it. No one would bother her in this territory. It was ‘safe’ and she was near invisible even as she was stark against the snow of the season. The sound shifted to a full run. That ember that had been burning in her burst into furious flames and she spun on the intruder, her fangs bared to her gums. What met her eyes when she looked had her snapping her jaws shut with a surprised yelp as she was pounced and pinned into the snow. Instead of fangs, Despoina batted playfully at her sister’s face, her own breaking into the wildest smile it had seen in some time.

When Myra finally did let her up, the young lady ran excitedly around her new-found sibling. The loneliness and solitude had been wiped away from her slate eyes. It was as if the world was seen anew. Not even paying attention to what she was doing, the onyx shaded form bent into a bow, her tail high in the air and whipping around in her glee.

She heard the sound of her name come from Myra’s voice and nothing could have made Despoina happier in the world! Not only had she suddenly found her sister, but she had heard her voice again! Though shaky and uncertain, she still did it. Despoina jumped around in happiness, yipping quietly in her joy. She stopped and stood, looking at her sister, tail still swaying in the air. With a grin she stepped forward as she used to, when she was first trying to teach her sister to speak, and pressed her neck against the other’s. She howled softly, a song of happiness, her breath blowing gently on her sister’s ears. Stepping back, she was still all smiles and tail wagging when she looked at Myra. Another grin, she lifted her face to the sky, with it she lifted her voice. All she wanted to do in that moment was to sing with her sister.
