it would seem these monsters are men

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

She was disheartened when the stallion suggested Braylen left the islands but quickly steeled herself against the thought. Braylen had come from these islands, even if Atlantis wasn’t home, he surely wouldn’t have left without telling her goodbye! Perhaps he’d returned to the island he’d been born on, the one he’d called Luthien. If only Abigail knew which one that was… her uncertainty of the islands was what kept her from venturing off Atlantis, afraid she would become lost and truly miss her chance to see Braylen once more.

Her gaze returned to the new stallion that called Paradise home, dark ears turning toward him. She had no real reason to distrust him other than the bias that he was now here and Braylen was not, but still, she worried. Abigail had learned the world which had sheltered her was nothing more than a nightmare dressed in silk. She’d learned a man she’d trusted from birth could be a demon himself and the one they called a demon could be a hero; she’d learned true monsters lurked in shadows with the stories not doing their horrors justice. Again she wondered which category this stallion fell into. She had no tales to his name to go off of, for she was far from home as she had ever been. Surely he had nothing to gain from holding her captive… not the way the others had.

“Yes.” She answered carefully, eyes narrowed as she studied him, still attempting to work out the perplexing puzzle which lingered in her mind concerning whether or not he was to be trusted. “Paradise was my home.” Without Braylen she would no longer consider it such… not until she was absolutely certain he was truly gone from these islands.

“I doubt you have any interest in helping me find him,” she said, voice careful with just a touch of haughtiness the more she spoke. Her chin lifted, though she was still so much shorter than he. “You’ve made this place your home; you don’t want to find him for the same reason I do.” Abigail would not allow Braylen to fall under harm by leading the enemy to him, wherever he was.

it would seem these monsters are men
and it would seem these men fear their own monsters
