The slate monsters first words almost threw the girl for a loop, “So, your saying I just took in a misfit… an outcast, an outsider. A reject?” He voice was a mix of emotions mostly consisting of a rhetorical firmness that sounded more upset than anything. And yet, there was something just slightly off about the seriousness and that’s when he broke. Laughter rumbled out of the onyx mastiff’s chest making Nova let a small smile cross over her features. Her calm façade rarely broke into such kindness but considering the Head of ALL soldiers in Abendrot was laughing, she didn’t see any harm in letting ago for a second. “My dear, you will fit in just fine. A perfect fit.” Perfect? She couldn’t see how her misfortune could be for the better, but she wasn’t complaining. Her life was actually starting to look a bit better.
Nova froze as soon as she felt Marx touch her. She hadn’t felt anyone so close to her in so long, she’d almost say she’d forgotten what another wolf’s touch felt like. His head rested atop her crown and pulled her into his muscled figure. A small wave of heat passed over her small bodice, she was embarrassed but she couldn’t deny how nice it felt to be held. She felt herself relax into him just long enough to get comfortable. And somehow in the short time he held her, Nova knew that Marx was the father she never had, but more than that, he was her new beginning in life as a soldier of Abendrot. She had no words to say about what had passed between them, the bond that formed between them. There was no questioning Marx, he had her better interests. But she did want to know why he wanted her and her question about his past provoked a chuckle from him.
His rumbling voice talked about everything, more than necessary it seemed. “I came to Abendrot at only a few weeks of age. Stumbled through the border onto the path of an alpha named Krutch. I was lucky, I suppose...that he did not choose to kill me. I came here like you do today, very little past, no parents and no future...I stayed on, trained by Krutch, even after he left, to become a wolf under another alpha, whom I fought challenge battles for, so the pack remained in good hands. Then Kershov came along and eventually his mate, Scarlet Nights.” Nova nodded quietly not interrupting his thoughts after he had finished speaking. A smile crept onto the slate soldier’s face making Nova tilt her head slightly, he was happy about something, but she knew better than to pry. Besides she was ready to start her training or whatever Marx had in mind.
“I took you in because you reminded me of myself I suppose… any more questions?”
Nova smirked deviously. “Only to ask, what the next task is, Marx. Sir.” She couldn’t help the military greeting slip, she didn’t think Marx would appreciate her calling him daddy or some silly pet name. Did he even consider himself her father or was she just a soldier to him? Some childish part of her hoped he could be her father, but she quickly banished the thought. I am soldier, I need no one but myself. Marx will train me till he sees me fit to go on my own. She helf up her and looked at Marx—her midnight iris’ staring deep into his stormy portals. She awaited his next command.
