The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

You were leaving. NOW. Kobato immediately looked up, finding herself a rush of terror as she realized that Marx was close to her. Too close. And he had a look in his eye… There was a sound in the distance, probably more near to her than she imagined. Kenshin. He was moving swiftly. Kobato reflexively closed her eyes tight and leaned as far as she could, nearly tripping over herself in the watery terrain. The doe peeked under her lashes, however, and watched as a woman strolled up confidently towards Marx. Kenshin’s footfalls had stopped dead, falling back into silence. And remarkably, Marx was retreating. Kobato’s toffee portals followed his tracks as he took off, putting distance between himself and this newcomer. Her cranial snapped back to the other Valkyrie. Her attention fully on the regal now. She was assuming regal. Kobato swallowed as the woman dipped her head to her. In response, she dipped her own. This stranger had just saved her from unconsciousness. The fae moved away, moments later looking oer her shoulder and smiling at the younger girl. Desert rose trackers began moving, picking up on the signal to follow. The ex-princess stepped forward, catching up to the femme within seconds. Kobato, right? Pleased to finally meet you. She didn’t know what to say, so she looked at the ground intensely, knowing that she had acted foolishly and still was doing so. How idiotic could she be? There was her flaw, her belief that there is good in everyone, so long as you search for it long enough. Marx likely did have kindness in him, but getting to it would be just as hard as it had been getting to Vladya’s, if not more so. But Kobato had slipped. She had let her guard down too much because of her upset heart. The girl needed to get herself together. Even now she was in possible danger.

But Kobato only felt like crying. Fangs dug into the side of her cheek to dissuade herself from doing so. The two made their way through a thicket, leading into a secretive little area that looked like it would let in quite the lovely amount of sunlight during mid afternoon in spring and summer despite it’s hidden location. The dove watched her hero fall to the ground, stretch out and make it obvious that she was offering Kobato the hare that was between them. Ko shook slightly, a chill running up her spine from not shaking the water out of her fur before she followed the other female into the glen. Go ahead. You must be hungry… however I can understand a lack of appetite after dealing with Marx-he can be… he didn’t touch you, did he? The prisoner’s brows rose and she smiled awkwardly, shaking her head in insistence. No, no. He didn’t do anything! She took a slow breath despite herself. …I was the one who provoked him… Of course she didn’t mention that it was an accident that she had. That she hadn’t been meaning to make the male angry. But rather let him in on her a bit. Instead she had angered him… When Kobato looked at the hare, she could only see the terror in the buck’s eyes, and she swallowed down nonexistent bile in her throat, finding it tight and hard to do so. Of course she was hungry. She’d been on rations here and didn’t know if she was even allowed to hunt. But Kobato did not take the food. Her smile wavered and then continued to fall into ruin, a disastrous look now on the little lightning bug’s face. She was still upset. And it was affecting her ability to bring herself back up. Why? Why was it so hard? Was it because she was older now that she could no longer be as resilient to the words of others as much as she used to?

Join me, the grass is rather comfy in here. Kobato raised her eyes in surprise and watched with a sort of awe as the woman rolled onto her back and took on the role of a pup in a pile of leaves. Softness came back to Ko as soon as her savior laughed, and it echoed throughout her body. Thank you. She inhaled and raised her head, smiling cheerfully, this time with a palette that wouldn’t go back to being blue. I really do appreciate you getting me out of trouble earlier…. Slowly Kobato lowered herself, her back still achy from being crammed into a den too small for her and obviously made for prisoners. But she plopped herself down and closed her eyes, enjoying the way the sun caught the water droplets on her cloak and swept them away into the atmosphere. Kobato really could fall asleep right here…. Except for one little tiny thing. She’d loosened up too much. And she couldn’t stop the tears from rimming her eyes. Swiftly the girl blinked, looking to the side to keep from showing off her despair too strongly. Another swallow. She’d been swallowing a lot in the past few hours… And mentioning Vladya to Marx had not helped.

Was he okay? Was he worried? Was he eating? Drinking? Was he hurt? Had he been captured too? Was he being treated horridly because of her? Was he…. Kobato swallowed again. Not good. Not good.
