The weather had tempered itself to the point where it was a mild winter day. Finally, Taika could leave the shelters she had been poking periodically around for. Petite, almost small, she did not fare as well in the bitter cold of the winter. At night, when she shivered she missed the companionship of her friends, or of a pack. Not only did the cold cut her, but the part of her being that needed to around others felt fragmented at these times, too. It was these moments that the young wolfess snorted to herself, got to her feet and dashed from her shelter and back into the world.
This had been one of those days. She had woken up, noticed it had not been too cold, and bounded into the light from her found shelter. The wind blew just hard enough to pick up the snow and toss it into the air. Sun and light combined with the wind, allowing sundogs to flank the universe’s center in dazzling rainbows. Even on the ground the light glittered through the crystals in the air. Happy to be warmer again, Taika also danced in the shimmering flakes in the air. A grin was plastered on her face while she jumped and leapt in the air, snapping playfully at the snow. She giggled to herself as she once again allowed herself to be pulled into a world that was not her own. The voices of faeries spoke to her. A companion she had created for herself squealed in her ear, urging her forward in her self-created happiness.
Taika played through the lands, not caring who watched her race herself, pick fights with fallen logs, or race laps around trees. For a brief moment she halted her running, tongue out and panting. “Which way now, my faerie friend?” She asked the spirit on her shoulders. “We need to find you a home!”
