The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

Now My Watch Begins; It Shall Not End Until My Death

The brute was not often as distracted as he was right now. He was too absorbed in his own thoughts, about his family, about his new home, about what he was even doing here, to notice the femme that was also walking through the pack. The white beast had been trained to be polite, especially to females, and walking into one of them was not the way to be polite. Even though he did not speak often, and often tried to stay to himself, he knew the proper ways to act, the proper ways to speak. Ghost was startled when he felt the warm form of another being when he barged into the ess, if anything he would expect himself to walk into a tree or something like that. But he should have picked up on the soft sounds of her pawsteps, of the scent of her and the pack, but he did not.

Her head whipped forward and her orbs narrowed at him. Ghost could not blame her for being mad or annoyed at him, it was his fault that he wasn’t paying attention. As he stumbled out an apology, she closed her lids, remaining silent for a moment, and the white brute shuffled awkwardly, not sure what to do now. Then she slowly opened her honey colored orbs, smiling at him, and he awkwardly looked at her, not sure what she was smiling about and why she was not angry. He was not sure what else to say to her, so he stupidly just looked at her, his crimson colored orbs trying to remember why she looked so familiar to him. The brujo could not focus on anything right now, he was too distracted thinking about other things, mainly his family and waiting to be rejected by this pack as he had always been rejected by his half-siblings. Whenever he was around others in the pack he felt awkward, not sure if he belonged here of if he was in the right place. He usually avoided seeing others, something he had grown good at, but it was hard to do when he walked directly into someone. And now she was just smiling at him, what was he supposed to do with that?

Finally the brute managed to stumble out his name before awkwardly looking away again as she continued to smile at him, nodding when he said his name. So the lightly colored femme must know him? But from where? And now he couldn’t remember where he had met her before, shit, what a great impression he was making, yet again. She shook her pelt out, and then began to circle him, sniffing him, and his form stiffened at her approach. Why was she coming near him and in his space? He was not used to it, but she didn’t seem to be hostile, so he didn’t move away or act aggressive towards her, as much as his instinct told him to. He silenced a whine that almost escaped him at his uncertainty of what to do around her. Why did he have to be so awkward all the time?

Finally the ess stopped circling him, stood in front of him and then spoke. He even breathed a sigh of relief as she spoke, taking the pressure of him to figure out what he had to do around her.
“I know your name Ghost
My own is Athene
Aside from this pack, the only family I can boast
Is my sister, Hellene.

Long have I been gone –
Away with my mate.
Now I know naught that gone on
In regards to this pack’s fate.

So please tell me now Ghost,
if you would be so kind
what happenings this pack can now boast
so I can expect what to find.”

Ghost’s head cocked to the side, audettes alert at the unique way that she spoke, processing her words, realizing that she was asking what had been going on in the pack while she was gone. The awkwardness came back to him at her question, realizing that he had nothing to tell her, as he himself had not been around the pack much. Ghost had stayed to himself, not going out of his way to interact with any of packmates, as he so often did, and had not spoken to any one besides her in a long time. ”Um…well…I don’t really know. I don’t usually talk to others, and I haven’t seen many other vargs from the last pack meeting that happened a long time ago. I don’t think Cade is alpha anymore, she hasn’t been around in a long time. The scent of a brute that I did not recognize has been more distinguishable on the borders though, but the scent is still strongly of Andere Seite. I wonder if he’s from the original family that lived here.” The brujo realized that he was rambling and quickly stopped talking, unsure of what else she would want to know, unsure of how to continue the conversation. And so, as Ghost often did, he blurted out a question or two, not sure of what else to do. ”So, um, you have a mate? What were you two doing away from the pack?” When he realized how personal of a question he asked he blushed and quickly turned his crimson gaze away, afraid that he may have offended her.
