feed on the fear that's behind your eyes

Asche has always been observant. Even through the awkward self involved stage of his transition to adulthood, the man seemed to have an intrinsic aptitude for keeping an eye on the world around him and reading into the signs his eyes reported back to his lively mind. For one who thought so much, many of his musing were based around others - be them present companions or ghosts of the past, and Asche in many ways was used to this way of thinking for he had not known much else. This meant that when he became quickly aware of a new presence in his home, he latched onto it, tracked them followed quietly until his instincts told him it was time to reveal himself. Was it self preservation? Potentially. He liked to call it considerate - nobody liked to be pounced upon when they least expected company, (well, apart from that night when he had found himself wrapped up in the mystery of Sinopa and Tolinka).

He had found her there and the moment had been perfect, and as he slipped from the shadows the air seemed to part, the usually close climate more chill by the clouds shading the sun from view and threatening to spill rain over the land. She pushed her way through the rising winds and aimed for one of the smaller caves, further away from the place that the rest of his herd usually slept, and he followed, somewhat comforted by her choice - many of the caves linked in with one another, a deep dark labyrinth that the resident stallion himself was still learning - he kept his new found family in one of the larger concealed caves, high from the ground and with a decent view of the dangerous jungle. It was his effort to keep them out of harms way. He let his family go where they pleased, he was no dictator, but he would always advise and protect as long as his heart beat in his chest and his body still permitted him to roam the territory and love his ladies.

"I don't believe we've met," Asche introduced himself, slipping inside the cavern with his head lowered and his eyes following her pale hide through the darkness. "I'm Asche." The deep tone of his voice rumbled through the air and echoed off the walls that were lightly coated in condensation. "Welcome to the ridge."

Moss seemed to cling to both of their hooves, the dampness of the air indicating another tropical shower - the change of the season had seen men grow closer to women and the sun begin to hide for longer behind a canopy of clouds. Asche quietly adjusted his stance and watched her, ears ready to listen, and mind ready to answer.
