aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The first to arrive was her own daughter, and Hellene could not be more proud of her daughter. Khaleesi was so sure of what she wanted in life, and was so dedicated to the path that would lead her there. From an early age, Khaleesi had found herself interested in what her mother had done, and Hellene was enthralled. Hellene was not the fastest, the stealthiest, the most cunning… but when it came to healing and her use of herbology, Hellene had no faults. Her entire puphood had been dedicated to learning from her own mother… and though packs in Blossom Forest were not run how her and Athene’s pack had been, it was a bit of a relief. Hellene often felt so strange – having packs with hierarchies and rankings instead of simply have jobs to do felt weird. When she was younger, she had nothing to prove other than simply doing her job. Here, she had to worry about whether she wanted a rank, how hard she wanted to work, ensure that she was appreciated for all that she did. All she wanted to do was what she did. So having Khaleesi dedicate herself to becoming a healer as Hellene had been forced to do was a touch of home. Hellene had not had a choice – she had had to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Athene had been chosen to be a warrior like her father whereas Hellene had been chosen to be a healer like her mother. Somehow, she felt even better that Khaleesi had chosen and not been forced to follow this path of treatment.

Hey mom! Is it time to start learning about healing? Hellene nuzzled against her daughter, pressing her nares into Khaleesi’s fluffed hair. “Yes, my little love, it is time. I know you have watched me work before but to start, you need to learn to identify plants and what they are used for. Let’s wait and see who else shows up, if any. I know Kalgalath wants me to do this so that we can help the other members of the pack learn but I don’t know if anyone else wants to. Healing is not a very popular way of…” Suddenly she fell silent as she heard approaching footsteps. Her ambers raised, to see who was approaching and her brows raised as she saw a femme approaching… one that she did not know. Her drapes narrowed as she watched her near… Hellene was overly protective not of just her pup but also of her pack, and she did not take kindly to unwelcomed outsiders. But then she paused, her nares that had been previously tucked into her daughter’s pelt flaring… and there it was. The scent of Kalgalath emanating from the fae’s pelt. This stranger, whoever she was, was a member of this pack now.

I’m S-s-sebring… Kalgalath just recently brought me into the pack. D-d-do you mind if I j-join your healing lesson…? Hellene made a gruff noise that sounded like a ‘harrumph’ before nodding sharply. Hellene was not one who was sweet and polite and social – she was rough around the edges and moody. “I’m Hellene. This is my daughter, Khaleesi. Take a seat.” She started to get settled in order to start the lessons when suddenly another set of footsteps approached, and Hellene’s pools took in another femme she did not recognize… and this one smelt of Saw Tooth. At least she was from an allied pack, although Hellene looked at this femme with a cocked head, confused. The last she had heard, Saw Tooth had a quite capable healer. She wondered why that healer was not teaching her own pack. The fae approached, tail tucked and a hesitant smile painted across her façade.

Hello, my name is Daenerys. I am from Saw Tooth and heard you were giving a training session on healing. Do you mind if I join you? Hellene nodded abruptly again, gesturing to the ground near her. “Have a seat.” Hellene, on the other hand, stood and moved behind Kalgalath’s throne, pulling out a few plants that she had already plucked. “We are going to start with the basics – the plants that you will use most commonly and that are easiest to find. This one here on the left is something I’m sure you will all recognize – it is moss. You can find it on most trees and most rocks. You can chew it up and make a poultice out of it with which you can put on any wound. It will help stop the bleeding, is an antibiotic, and will make the wounds heal faster. This one here in the middle is poppy. It is easy to find because of its vibrant red hue. The flax inside of the stem is potent, as are the seeds. Generally, your patient needs to ingest it for it to work – one of the only downfalls. Finally, this third one is garlic. It will make your breath smell awful but it good for just about everything. You don’t need to have anything diagnosed ahead of time as it is good for any fungal, bacterial, or viral infection. It natural boosts immune systems and is also an anti-inflammatory. The cloves can be broken apart by throwing them on rocks or stepping on them. Any questions thus far?” Her voice was rapid as she ran through the herbs set in front of her.
