aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

You May Be a Coward, but You’re Not Stupid

The young, often frightened, brute’s life had gotten a little less scary recently. He remembered when Shae, the one he had once called mother even though she was not the one to birth him, had told him that he would not be staying with her long term. The kalak had ensured him that she still loved him and cared for him, and that she always would, but sometimes it was hard for him to believe. If she really did love him then why would she want to give him away? To separate him from his sisters and bring him to a new place that he was not used to. The whole though terrified him, thinking that the wolves in this new place must be evil. Shae probably wanted to get rid of him because he was always frightened, no matter they did as a family, he was the one that was afraid and hesitant. Shae never seemed to be afraid of anything, and although she did comfort him most of the time, he felt like really she didn’t want to deal with him and his anxieties. He just wasn’t good enough.

But the young, uniquely colored brute had been forced to go to a pack called Aurora Borealis anyways, despite his cries and protests. In the end he did not complain when they left, knowing it would do no good. Tarly still remembered when the much larger, black, muscular femme had approached them, asking Shae what she had called her for. Clearly she knew even less than Tarly did about the whole situation. She had smiled at him, and she appeared genuinely happy to meet him. When Shae said he was to be her son, he was afraid she would turn away, not wanting a pup that was scared and weak like him. But instead of turning away she had smiled at him, not understanding at first but not saying no. He ended up heading back to her den with her, and she was kind to him, genuinely nice, and for once, he wasn’t as scared.

Tarly woke up one morning, expecting to feel the warmth of his mother at his side like he usually did, but she was not there. At first he went into panic mode, thinking she had left him and no longer wanted him, but he forced those thoughts down. Tarly stood up, limbs shaking slightly, and shook his shaking his black striped head to try and wake himself up more. He thought about why she may be gone instead of panicking. This was not the first time that he woke up without her. Sometimes she went for a run or went to patrol the borders. His stilts were still a little too small to keep up with her for that. Or she would go hunting, and bring him back fresh meat for breakfast. He liked breakfast, and his plump form got a little excited at the thought. He wanted to go outside and see if she was there, but he didn’t like going out on his own. With a deep breath, Tarly meekly looked out the den, hoping to see his mother’s black form outside, but knew she would be back if she was not outside yet.
