Tithe watched as the two players nudged each other and teased. Though he was pleased with their friendship in each other, he could not completely stop the feelings of jealousy towards Edrick. The carefree wolf had a spirit and an innocence he envied. The easy way Edrick seemed to be able to open up to Taika made Tithe’s heart cringe while nothing of his inner thoughts displayed on his face. Ever since his puppyhood, he felt as though he could not show who he was, display the innocent play the two seemed to effortlessly fall into.
Spurred on by Edrick’s tail tapping against her and to her feet by his paws she continued to dance around them, nearly deaf to them talking about her. ”Of course they played with me! Just like the play with you!” She smirked over at Tithe. ”They would let you join their games, too. If they thought you would loosen up to play with them.”
The moment Edrick’s smile seemed to falter for a moment, Taika slid to halt in her antics. She whined softly at him. Her body quivered beside his and she reached her nose out to him. They played and tussled, but she did not know if he would accept a comforting touch from her as well as a playful one. Another soft whimper came from her, inviting him to seek comfort from her if he so wanted it. The loss of family, or anyone close was enough to leave a wound in a heart. As she looked at the saddened face of her companion, the girl wanted nothing more than to nose his lips back into the smile she had been enjoying. She knew, however, that it was not possible to be joyful all the time. The sadness is what made the times of pleasure all the more enjoyable.
His words returned to their teasing, and her grin returned to her face. She thought about it for a minute, not even realizing that her bow to him was a sign of submission. Their teasing tones were such that it had never truly crossed her mind that he might have looked at her as anything other than an equal. She blinked at him. ”King, prince, page, or peasant. The fairies take you as their own. There is something to be said about that.”
Once more they were pulled into their realm of fantasy. With an excited yip, Taika jumped to her feet, grinning. ”I have the power of the moon and the stars! They are the rulers of night and darkness! When we arrive their light and that of the shining Faerie Knight, King, Prince, whatever you are, will drive off the shadows!” She seemed to dance on her toes, waiting for him to lead the way.
Tithe chuckled at the two of them, also getting to his feet. Instead of shifting into a form of play, he stretched himself to his tips and shook out the accumulating ice from his fur. Dark eyes looked to the horizons and he sighed. ”I must leave the plight of the pixies to you two. Fate calls me elsewhere.” He looked at Taika, who seemed disappointed but understanding. ”Be safe.” Was all he said, his last hard stare on Edrick, before he trotted away from the couple.
Gold laced eyes watched her friend leave before looking back at the playful male, the silly smile back on her face. ”Lead the way, oh Prince! Unless you don’t know it!” Her smile was sly, but she had to struggle to keep from shivering in the growing cold.
