A Slim Silver Lining

Watching how gracefully Madeline turned to head to the library made Nim's mind pick over continuously how clumsy she was. More than a few instances came to mind. There was that one over in Augury Vale where she had probably looked like a cartoon character with the bridge coming out from under her and then there were numerous incidents involving alcohol, which she did not want to think about at all. She had remade her vows of freedom from such caught in the dangers of the marsh. She pushed aside the twinge of envy she felt for for Madeline's grace and ease of knowledge in the castle. Feeling out of her depth ought to just motivate her to spend more time familiarizing herself.

"No,I'm a political student," Nim replied, knowing she didn't look very young to be a student and was older than she looked and redirected the question, "How long have you been here?" She gave a quick glance around the library as if expecting it to be infested by classmates. Instead the library seemed a beautiful sanctuary given that it was indoors. Drawn towards the glow from the windows Nim tipped her head back to admire the painted ceilings. She felt tiny standing among such magnificence. "It's good to hear the king is so free with his library, it's been a long time since I've gotten to read consistently," Nim refocused on the true treasures of the library, "I miss the many many libraries of Earth, but I never really fit there well."

It was as if it was a habit, without really browsing Nim already had a couple books in her hands. One was almost certainly for school, but the other was an old favorite. She surveyed Madeline's setup with another small stab of envy. It truly was her own. Nim wondered what her own space would look like if she ever set it up. Probably not so cozy, but certainly not so spartan as her room. She couldn't help except think back to cottages buried up to their chimneys in vines, greenery, flowers. Maybe a greenhouse with a cot in it would serve Nim well.

"Oh," Nim blushed slighty, almost matching Madeline's glow when she described people Nim didn't even know sneaking away. "I would love to stay in here," Nim said, focusing on a different part of what Madeline said until her cheeks stopped burning, "My room seems so cold. I mean, it's very kind that the castle has such rooms for guests who tarry too long, but they don't have your touch." Nim stood by the windows, gazing at the details around her. Her long stay on Earth in a greatly Christian area probably made Nim blind to the cross on the wall. If someone had asked her to describe the room if she had noticed it at all it was just a detail that would sink to the back

"What do you hope to do around the castle? You certainly seemed to be doing some studying of your own!" Nim was impressed by the comfortable set up. Obviously hours of reading went into this place.
