Lorain County Speedway was back in action tonight after taking a week off. Tonight was Family Fun Night / Kids Night, and what a night it would be. Some of the kids activities included a tour of the pit area, Minecraft Survival Night and a water balloon war with 2,000 water balloons as the kids took on the LCS drivers .Racing tonight were the Modifieds, Crate Sprints, Grand Nationals and the Chargers. Taking home feature wins were T.J. Stineman (Modifieds), Tigh Shaffer (Crate Sprints), Cornel Mentler (Grand Nationals) and Michael Parks (Chargers).
The Chargers started off the evenings feature races. Chad Gerken who was making his first appearance of the season, was the early race leader. It was three wide racing on lap three as Gerken was joined by Michael Parks and Trent Aslaksen, all fighting for the lead. Gerken fell off of the pace as Parks and Aslaksen continued to battle for the lead. Parks would be in sole possession of the lead on lap five but would now have Dan Smith running second. Smith hounded Parks for the remaining laps only to come up short as Michael Parks would win tonights Charger Dash, second Heat Race and Feature race.
The Grand Nationals twenty lap feature was up next. Jeff Bowling held the early lead until the caution flag waved for a spin on lap four. The restart was waved off and on the following restart, Ed Kerman took a hard hit into the backstraight wall coming out of turn two. The race was immediately red flagged. Kerman was ok but was taken to a local hospital for observation. There would be a lengthy wait until another ambulance could be sent to the track.
When the race resumed there was another caution as Bobby Schramm and Bob Lusetti tangled in turn two resulting in both drivers being disqualified for rough driving. Cornel Mentler would get past Bowling on this restart for the lead. Jeff Fade Jr. advanced to second but couldn't catch Mentler as he went on to win his second Grand Nationals feature of the season.
The Modified thirty lap feature saw Steve Jones lead from the pole before the caution flag came out on the first lap for Ricky Elkins spin in turn four. On the restart it would be Sam Tanner taking the lead followed by Jones, Jeremie Wiggins, Ryan Cypher and T.J. Stineman. Tanner would break out of his qualifying time on lap five, and Jones would spin in turn four.
Jeremie Wiggins would now be in the lead. Running second was T.J. Stineman followed by Nick Wiery, Mike Lawson and Kenny Phillips. At the midpoint of the race, Wiggins had a half straightaway lead over T.J. Stineman. Running third was Wiery, followed by Lawson and Rick Groetsch. As the race went on, Wiggins would increase his lead to cruise to the checkered flag. In a post race inspection, Jeremie Wiggins would be disqualified. T. J. Stineman would be declared the winner of tonights Modified feature.
