I don't mind that it's not exactly normal to take a yearling to fight a cougar. I care that she thought I could handle it. That says something about my worth to her. If she had seen me as weak, she might have told me to fight a squirrel or a rabbit or something. Maybe even sparred with me herself and took it easy on me. Instead she pinned me against a wild cougar. It gave me such a rush. I love it. I know the alpha was not a pack wolf when she came here. She's been learning too. And she probably has a lot of experience to offer from that that I hope to learn. I do feel honored that she chose to train me herself. I had picked out Tobias as my trainer but she'll do just fine. I bit the cat's tail as an immature jibe maybe to get the last word in but it felt good to do it so I don't regret it.
I don't see her shake her head or maybe I would feel a little chided. As it is, I feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins and my tongue is lolling out, my sides heaving from the workout but I feel great. Maybe I'll do that again some day when I have more weight on my side. I turn my head when I hear her land on the ground after jumping from the rock, my ears pricking toward her and my head lowering in respect to her position as she comes toward me. She stops beside me as I start licking the blood from my coat, not out of vanity but because it tastes good. I blame it on my vampiric genes. She seems to look at me for a long time and since I'm not an impatient creature, I bide my time cleaning my coat to give her all the time in the world to make up her mind on what she wants to say.
When she does speak, I look up, giving her my full attention as my tail thumps the ground. I don't take her words as an insult rather but as a fact she knows to be true. Yes, I am too young maybe to kill a mountain lion, though I wouldn't have minded trying some more. Still, I knew the best bet would be to set the cat running before she gets another hold on my scruff. She seems to approve of letting the cat go so my eyes light up with hope. She says she'll give me constructive criticism which I don't mind at all but first she has a question. Now it's my turn to think carefully on my words and what I want to say. my brows furrow as I stare off in the direction the lion took off in before I look back at her to answer. "I learned not to hurry any move, to calculate and try to think two steps ahead of my opponent. While I think it's important to let instinct dictate so you can move smoother, it's also important to outthink your opponent with the same grace as if it was second nature. The mountain lion made every attack stream right into the next one and she learned my fighting style fast and adapted accordingly. I need to fight more. I need to learn different fighting styles so I can think up moves to retaliate if the case ever comes up." I say the last words as a fact, even nodding my head to agree with myself before I look to her for her reply.
