The brute had always been well trained thanks to his family. From a young age him and his brothers began learning how to survive and thrive in the world. When most lupines heard training they usually thought of fighting and defense, but that was not all that was to it. He knew that having good battle skills was important, and he certainly would use them if he ever had to defend his pack or friends, but that was not all that life was about. Some packs focused solely on the more aggressive aspects of being a wolf, and he knew that he would never fit in with those types. Just because one was born with daggers and talons did not mean that they always had to be used. He had been in his fair share of scraps and fights within wolves his own age in his old pack, but had never been in a serious war or fight. When the war that had killed his family broke out he was still too young to be of much use, and had instead taken to watching over his younger brother who was still only a pup. Summer still remembered the night that he had fled with the younger brute in his jaws, his older brothers staying behind to try and defend the pack that their father and mother had died protecting.
Besides the memories of death that always seemed to plague him there were some good ones as well. He remembered practicing his defensive and offensive moves with his brothers, Grey Wind and Ghost. His father was a skilled fighter and practiced in war and was the best teacher one could ask for. All that learned under him went away knowing that they had more than enough tools to look after themselves and those that they needed to protect. His mother was a gentler beast, and taught him other aspects of life like some basic herbology and how to hunt. The smoky colored brute often enjoyed those times more. He was not the aggressive type like his other brother, Grey Wind, and being around a calmer atmosphere with his mother was nice. Hunting was what he was best at. He used the skills his father taught him so he could easily sneak up on his prey and take them out. It was not often that he missed when he was hunting, and he was even good at taking down larger prey in larger groups. Though he was often concerned for the safety of others and did not do too many larger group hunts.
So when Summer was doing a routine hunt as he had done so many times he did not realize the mistakes he was making. Sure he had not been getting much sleep lately but that was no excuse for how careless he had accidentally become today. He did not realize his error until he felt the warm body of another wolf under his paws. His yellow orbs saw the auburn fur of the femme and knew he had made a terrible miscalculation in his leap at the prey he had been stalking. When his paws hit the unsuspecting femme he lost his balance and fell to the ground, pulling his limbs off of her awkwardly as the two sprang to their paws. Summer immediately felt guilt wash over him, going to a more submissive stance because of what he had done to show her that he meant to harm, tail hanging limply behind him. The auburn femme reacted in a way that any in her positon would react, angrily, hackles raised and a snarl on her features made Summer’s pinna lie flat on his head, embarrassment filling him even more as he stumbled out apologies. Once she realized the mistake he had made, she too laid her ears back, both showing that they meant the other no harm. “Oh... I'm sorry as well, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.” Her vocals broke the awkward silence between them and he smiled sheepishly at her as he physically relaxed. ”Do not apologize miss, I was in the wrong here not you.”
The ess shook her fur out, sitting on the ground as she spoke once more, this time with a smile. “I should probably thank you, actually. You woke me from a terrible dream, one that I could not seem to stop on my own. Summer copied her motions and sat in front of her, plume lazily wrapping around his paws. At her words he tilted his head, not expecting her to be thanking him for rudely startling her as he had done. A warm smile appeared on his features as he too spoke. ”Well, then I suppose you are welcome.” He gave a small chuckle at the words, wondering if he should ask what nightmare had been plaguing her. He supposed if it was too personal or something she didn’t want to talk about that she wouldn’t of brought it up, and now he was curious, so he decided to pry a little. ”What was making your dream so terrible? I’m Summer by the way.” He quickly added his name into the conversation, figuring it would be easier to talk knowing the name of the femme he had interrupted.
