heaven help me
I felt a small wave of guilt at the ripple of disappointment that snuck its way across Zelda's face when she realized we probably wouldn't be able to find the exact location where her parents had first met. Then and there I decided that I would do my best to seek out her mother and find out as much as I could about the location so that maybe someday in the not so distant future I could bring the bright young girl back here and show it to her. If Amoxtli decided that I was fit to be the pack's Dream Catcher, I wanted to do the best by the youth of Taviora as I could. Almost as soon as her features faltered, Zelda perked up once more, not deterred by the comprehension that this trip might not amount to what she'd hoped - but something different, maybe something better! I would not let her down, and my tail brushed back and forth as I smiled at her with an affirmative nod. "Without'a doubt, Miss Zelda." I answered her.
We stepped further into the cavernous pathways of the grotto, and the light began to dim ever so slightly. I was thankful, however, for the cracks and fissures throughout the tunnels, though, that allowed the midday sun to streak through and illuminate our path. Zelda seemed excited by the opportunity to make a game of sorts out of our little adventure, and she spun around to face me with excitement. I nodded at her words before lifting a paw and gesturing towards it. "Didja know we've got glands in our paws? That'd be why ya can recognize who mighta passed by recently from their paw prints. But in'na place like this'n, ya need to find'a way to make it a bit - as ya said - stronger." Stepping forward, I motioned to a bit of moss that was growing low along the wall of the cavern. "Why dontcha give that a few paws and scratches?" I smirked at her, nodding and then waiting for her to give it a go.
Once she had, I stepped forward and lowered my nose to sniff at it. "Well, I'll be," I said with a grin, motioning for her to give it a sniff as well. She would find that the potency was stronger than a normal paw print. Lifting my brows to her I motioned with my head that we should continue on our way. I spotted an area where the cavern floor was cracked and gave way to an area of dirt, and as soon as I came upon it I set to scratching into the dirt with my forepaws. Onward we went, and I let her pick out a few places she thought would be good to mark - either her or me, I would gladly oblige her requests.
As we made our way deeper into the grotto, I steered our path towards a particular location I had come across when I'd ventured here before, thinking she would find it quite spectacular. The path we followed widened, the ceiling lifting until it poured out into an area that was almost bowl like in shape. A massive fissure in the ceiling let light shine through and illuminate almost the entire area. There was no pool here like her parents had met by, but the far wall almost seemed to sparkle. In fact, it sort of did sparkle. Some kind of rock or gem was embedded in the wall, revealed by the trembling of the earth that had revealed these caverns to Moladion's population. But instead of looking out at the splendors of nature, I glanced towards Zelda, hoping that she was impressed with this little adventure of ours.
