Lorain County Speedway was back in action on Sat. September 5, 2015 with the first of two shows this month. Tonight was the Annual Cruisin' Times Magazine Hot Rod Show. Also the Vintage Antique Race Cars were on display as well as putting on a racing exhibition later in the evening. Racing tonight was the Mod Mania North Coast Modified Challenge 50 lap feature with current Modified points leader Kenny Phillips taking the feature win. Other feature winners tonight were Jeff Fade Jr. (Grand Nationals) and Michael Parks (Chargers).
The North Coast Modified Challenge fifty lap feature saw the front row of Kurt Hennings and T.J. Stineman lead the sixteen car field to the green flag. Hennings held the early lead followed by T.J.Stineman, Jeremie Wiggins, Zack Miller and Kenny Phillips. The caution flag was out with two laps scored when Rick Grudier spun in turn four.
Hennings led the restart as the battle for second place was now between Wiggins and T.J. Stineman. T.J. Stineman took second and was now challenging Hennings for the lead. Wiggins was third followed by K.Phillips and Zack Miller. The caution flag was out on lap eight when Matt Marlowe had steering problems and Lucas Ripley made contact with the front straight wall. Ripley was not injured but out of the race.
Wiggins led this restart only to have the caution flag wave again, this time for Nick Wiery who spun into the infield. Hennings continued to lead on this restart with K.Phillips second. There was a pair of cautions on lap sixteen. On the lap sixteen restart it was K. Phillips taking the lead. At the halfway mark it was K. Phillips, Bob Sibila, Rick Groetsch, and T.J. Stineman just before another caution when Joe Quinn spun in turn four.
K. Phillips led the restart as Sibila battled Groetsch for second. Groetsch took second and gave chase to K. Phillips. Sibila held third and the top three pulled away from the rest of the field. The last caution flag of the race came on lap thirty nine when Wiggins had a flat tire. K.Phillips would again lead on the restart and go on to take the checkered flag in tonights North Coast Modified Challenge fifty lap feature. It turned out to be quite a night for celebrating for Kenny Phillips who had to divide his time tonight between Lorain County Speedway and his son Curtis Phillips wedding in Vermilion.
