Re(8): Listener 4359: Coded Message by The Tall'n

I was puzzled by the clue to RITE:

Among others, liturgy pronounced correctly.

'Rite' can be defined simply as 'liturgy', so what do the first two words mean? Assuming they do contribute something meaningful, isn't the clue better without them?

I hoped to find the answer on the Listener website, but it only explains the wordplay as a homophone of 'right' and doesn't elaborate on the definition.
