I am inclined to believe that it is a good thing she has decided to stay here. She intends, it seems, to make it a temporary event and yet, I intend to make it otherwise. She is a wolf who has known many of the packs and perhaps her closeness to their leaders due to her position makes her invaluable; that is my belief, at least. I am yet to be entirely sure. It seems motherhood has found her too, her activities slowed during the cool winter months. Yet, that is changing it seems. I have been sure to keep a watchful eye on those pregnant within Glorall and so, it is when that... stench moves in the breeze from her den that I take to the outskirts of the pack.
It is a custom, I suppose, commonly performed and yet, at its core, it is must simpler: we must ensure their health remains lest they become a heavy burden on the pack. Each new child is a new mouth to feed and so, the mothers must be well. It is with that in mind that I slide through the undergrowth, my ears and nose focused in on one of the fat spring hares that have emerged. They have been well fed in the first half of spring, their bodies plump and their minds sedated. It is never an easy task and yet, I take off with fleeting strides as one of the hares takes it upon itself to lower onto its stomach in the shade. It beliefs it is safe and yet, minutes later, it hangs from my jaws, limp and cold eyed. It feels good to warm the muscles in such a way and I cannot help but investigate the nearby border as I lope back towards Natu's den; there have been no intrusions and the white female has not returned in an effort to cause upheaval. It is a good beginning to spring, I am sure.
When I arrive, I am not surprised to find Hadrian already tending to her. He does not appear bothered and so, considering the lack of blood in the air, I must assume all has gone well for her. It is a good thing in comparison to my own mother who will undoubtedly become a drain on resources with so many children and such terrible condition. At least, for now, we have one female who will be able to continue to provide beyond her own children's needs.
I nod to Hadrian in silent greeting as I approach the den's mouth, a huff given to alert Natu to my presence. It is then that I lower the hare, still fresh, to the den's mouth. I nose it towards the shadows below before stepping back, taking a position outside. If she desires to speak with me, so be it, but I have done what I have come to do and now, I shall take a temporary position to ensure no intruders or predators come in search of her scent. It is the least I must do as their alpha. I know to leave new mothers to their children and so, I offer no words, simply the promise of a meal and protection.
