aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

wolf

~I hope you smile when you look down on me~

The ashen girl waited with thoughtful eyes, her mind was blank. She couldn’t think of anything that might have made Kalgalath who he was, but she hoped with all her heart that it wasn’t anything painful. Her conflicted heart wanted to know what had made him but didn’t want him to remember what hurt him because most wolves so wise to the world did not learn so easily. And Kalgalath wouldn’t be an exception to this worldly law, but he comforted her by gently pressing his cranium against her and nodding. But the Sebring cut him off once more, trying not to step on anything too personal, before she finally silenced herself. Her auds perked up listening for her mottled knights words but she comforted one last time with a visible shake of his head, “"I offered this up to you, there is nothing about what you said that could be called prying. I will be an open book before you - anything that you wish to know you need only ask as I have nothing to hide... and I believe that I want you to know me just as much as you want to know me." He gentle lyrics put Sebring at ease, her crown lowered to her paws and she waited patiently, like a pup waiting for her mother to tell her a bedtime story.

There a subtle pause in her knight’s speech as he pondered what to tell her, but Sebring waited patiently. Whatever Kalgalath deemed proper to tell her, she would try to take in stride. She couldn’t help but think that whatever his past was, it must have been darker than she’d like to imagine. Could it be worse than hers? Sebring cringed at the thought, but forced herself to focus again as Kalgalath began to speak. "Well, I suppose I should start at the beginning then. I was raised in a loving pack and had a non-traumatic childhood. My parents were the Alphas of the lands and taught me much of what I know, and were very supportive. I had a few siblings, but for the most part my younger years were uneventful. One of my... best friends growing up was a femme, Nika, who I eventually fell in love with." She was happy to hear the first portion of his speech, but her spirit faded at the idea of Kalgalath loving another femme. Sebring mentally slapped herself, this is his past! She’s not around anymore… is she? Sebring felt herself fading away at the thought of this, Nikka, still wandering around the terra… but Kalgalath’s coughing drew Sebring back out of her inner thoughts. "We were mated... but she left me, not telling me that she was pregnant. I moved to Blossom Forest and joined Munashii Gekko and took a pup under my wing who had been abandoned, Aindreas, who I later learned was actually my pup. I heard rumors about Nika and left... and when I returned I found the scent of my friend from Munashii, Kong, and followed him here to Aurora Borealis. My timing was poor, or perhaps I should say was good. The current Alphess was dying, but the pack then voted me in as the new Alpha. The rest of my life here has included expanding my pack. I later found an abandoned pup, Blayre, and adopted her and then I started a relationship with one of my pack members, Zig, but then Nika showed up and told me the truth about everything and brought our children with her. All three of them - Aindreas, Adara, and Rohan - are adults now, though Rohan sadly died. Blayre, too, is an adult now. Nika left... Zig betrayed me... I tried to save a femme from a brute but the whole situation got turned about and the brute ended up stealing a pup from here. Luckily we got her back unharmed... And now here I am. Alpha without a mate, but with plentiful and loyal friends whom I consider family." Sebring felt herself exhale as Kalgalath inhaled, had she really been holding her breath? Every word was a memory and it made sense. A brute as sensible as Kalgalath couldn’t have been shaped by one event but rather by a collection of these moments.

For as much pain as Sebring herself had felt it seemed as though Kalgalath had lived two lives within one lifetime. She could only imagine the pain which either of these events would have caused. The pleasure of gaining the acquaintance of his own pups but also losing their mother and his former mate could only described as heaven and hell combined. And then the gain and loss of another femme, Zig. Sebring felt the hot tears forming in her eyes, though not because of anger or misunderstanding, quite the opposite actually. She felt herself hurting for Kalgalath, the pain of her mother’s death and father’s abandonment doubled, even tripled at the thought of going through it more than once. She blinked rapidly trying to hide any evidence of the hot salty drops forming in her tear ducts. She didn’t want Kalgalath to get the wrong idea about her emotional status, but before she could worry any more he began to answer on a lighter note. "As for what I enjoy - aside from saving damsels in distress - I prefer hunting over fishing. My favorite prey is moose. My favorite place in the territory is the clearing where my throne sits. Not because of the power, but because of the memories of all who have come before me and of all the friends who have surrounded me there. But my favorite place in all of Blossom Forest is Staircase Falls. It is almost always sunnny there and it is sometimes just so relaxing to be able to spend time away from my duties and forget that I am anyone other than just me." A small laugh escaped her lips, saving damsels in distress… His remark made her smile once again. At least they could joke about her predicament.

A sudden rush of cool air touched Sebring’s back as Kalgalath released her from his embrace. Sebring turned to look at Kal, but his head was turned away from hers. His icy pools looked away from her, was he ashamed? “Kalgalath, is everything okay? Don’t think that what you’ve told me changes… She sputtered to a stop, not knowing how to finish the thought without giving everything away. “Kalgalath you are no less the incredible brute that I’ve gotten to know, what happened in the past does not define who you are.” Her cranium reached up and nuzzled her knight gently, her tongue smoothed the fur at the bass of his ear. She wanted to comfort him, she meant what she said! She didn’t care for him any less, “You’re still the gentle knight that rescued me from the depths of the lake, who in a matter of days has taught me how to laugh and smile again.” The words fell from her mouth unconsciously. And though it was no confession of her feelings, she still felt the heat rising into her cheeks. “Thank you for being so forth coming with me, Kalgalath. It means more than you’ll ever know, to me. You’ve helping me learn that there is kindness in this world. You just have to look in the right places.” Sebring pulled her crown away from Kalgalath and searched for her mottled knight’s icy pools. She wanted him to understand that she felt no different about him, if anything her blossoming love was flourishing with each word and caress.

"They’re only baby scars," She whispers.
