Re(1): Your thoughts on the essay?

sigh. the thing that really bothers me (no, I realize that you have the problem right now, but - )is that what trend is prevalent in the USA tends to get here about 20 years later. So far we don't have the problem, partly because we don't have the over-religious attitudes here. But the dumbing down via Tv/internet is showing a hint of leading edge. However - prolonged snicker - the current winner of the NZ Children Book Award has run into huge trouble. The work contains drug-taking, sex, violence, and, usefully, it's generating a massive controversy, talk about books, what is appropriate for YA writing, whether it's okay to depict such things while using them to show how destructive they can be in a fictional setting, and interviews with the author. Listening to a lot of that is reassuring, so long as
we still argue about books here, quote chunks of them, and interview authors, with all that being headline news, it can't be too bad. javascript:|0bbc('','');
