Re(4): Listener no. 4361: Two for the Price of One by Monk

Patrick, what help is that to somebody living outside the UK? The Listener has an international following, and some of us get it through the Times Crossword Club because we cannot buy a hard copy of the newspaper.
My experience was much the same as Terry's. Unlike John I could find no example of a completed puzzle on the internet. All I managed to find after repeated searches was an elementary puzzle unaccompanied by any clear rules or solution. I wasted time tracing a route using a NW diagonal where it seemed to be indicated, but eventually realised that wouldn't lead to a unique solution. In the end I learned from someone that the lines could only be lateral, not diagonal. Once over that unnecessary hurdle I found a route very quickly.
I enjoyed both puzzles but felt the preamble was less than helpful.
