Joey voted into Florida Sports Hall of Fame Posted on September 23, 2015 at 04:29:01 PM by Jeff "Laca" Conway
Joey Cornblit was voted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame today as one of 9 new members. Also voted in was former Bucs head coach Tony Dungy.
Joey led the American team to a bronze metal at the World Amateur Championship at the age of 15, then turning pro at a very young 16 years old. The Miami native played at Miami Jai-alai becoming the first American born player to become a world champion - winning 23 championships. He holds the record for most wins at Dania jai-alai with 186 during the 1988-89 winter season. He retired in 1995, ending an amazing 24-year career. His number 37 is also retired. Lets hope he shows up at Dania jai-alai when they reopen.
Having a jai-alai player recognized by the Florida Sports Hall of Fame is quite an accomplishment. Congrats Joey! Replies: There have been no replies.
