The Pencil Museum is a great day out. We've been there, and I greatly enjoyed it. The giant pencil is very impressive.
Unfortunately the chances of me getting to go again with my family are precisely zero, as it was voted the most boring place ever - even worse then Barometer World. And apparently much worse than the sadly defunct "World in Miniature" in Cornwall, where you could walk round gardens scattered with scale models (perhaps six feet across) of famous world landmarks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Taj Mahal. It was an endless source of humour to my family that when the model of Buckingham Palace was damaged, it was replaced with... a six foot photo of the model of Buckingham Palace (not of Buckingham Palace itself).
Who wants holidays abroad when you can sample delights such as the above in good old Blighty? Well, actually my wife and children do. So if next summer anybody sees an overweight, bald, bearded crossword editor wandering around such a place, please say hello. I'll be grateful for the conversation. Replies:
