Castanos added to tournament roster/Scott K returns to birthplace on his birthday! Posted on October 7, 2015 at 04:04:57 PM by Jeff "Laca" Conway
Paul Kubala aka Castanos, has been added to Tampa Bay roster to play in the CT-FL Amateur Court Championship this December. Paul was the main principle on getting the first public jai-alai court built in the United States - right here in St. Petersburg. His addition makes the total of 8 players on our roster.
Currently, "Connecticut" Matt has 4 confirmed players, but feels he will have at least 2 more and maybe more. There is no limit in the number of players who can enter. No exact tournament has been set because we are awaiting a final head count. Because the event is not until December, there is no rush on format.
NJAA officials are very pleased with the participation numbers and there might even be more. Despite a roster size about 1/5th the size of Connecticut's, the numbers are encouraging.
Here is the roster so far:
The players are all very excited about the tournament. The 2016 version will be pushed up to late April and early May to coincide with the two courts anniversary's and to avoid Christmas party time.
As a side note, Scott King will wake up the morning of the event - Saturday December 12th - in Meriden, Connecticut - his 57th birthday and in the city he was born!!!!
If anyone is interested in making the trip, the players are taking nonstop flights from Tampa to Hartford via Southwest Airlines and staying at the Quality Inn & Suites, in Meriden, Connecticut. Replies: There have been no replies.
