Re(3): Word breaks, again

Don says: "The Guardian allows this sort of thing and the bloggers call it 'lift and separate'."
Some bloggers: Mark Goodliffe coined this term on the Times for the Times blog in January 2007 (link below), to describe something different - multiple-word phrases in clues which are not two-word phrases in the "cryptic reading" of the clue. It was used in the same way on the same blog as recently as 30 June this year (Times 26138).

We can't stop people using it to mean something else, but it would be a shame if all uses and users of "lift and separate" were tarred with the same brush.
