Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Wind through the tall grasses spoke to her, sang to her softly like the rest of the world around her often did. She played around in the grass, following wisps of anything that caught her attention. Her imagination flowed and the dirt flying into the air in the summer sun was a spirit, calling her to dance with her. Who was she to refuse the call of the earth when it spoke to her so clearly. A smile forever on her face, she leapt from one patch of worn grass to another. She followed nothing and everything at the same time. Wherever the wind and the sun took her was where she went.

This particular day had her following the trails of small creatures, her nose trying to find the lair of fairies who might need her help. Ever since she had found a good tree home for Tauno and his family she had been on the hunt for a new task. Not to say she did not often return to the forests to check up on her friends that no one else could see. On the border of the vast fields there were prints and a scent that caught her attention. The russet fae hesitated, her nose going back over the scent. This was neither fairie nor field mouse. It was something else entirely. Something about it tugged at the young woman’s mind. Carefully she cleared the area around the scent, her eyes and senses glued to the trail, trying to pick up anything about what she had found. Small prints had been pressed into the ground. Taika followed the trail with haste.

Nose still locked the ground the gypsy raced through the long grass, looking desperately until her chocolate eyes fell on the small pup curled up in the protective brush. A sigh of relief and the maiden stepped forward, approaching the puppy slowly so as not to spook the sleeping child. Kind smile and laughter always in her innocent eyes, Taika nudged Maple, hoping to gracefully bring the child into waking.

“Sweet spirit.” She whispered to her, her tones light and as playful as she was. “What brings you to the fields all alone?” Her grin grew. “Did the fairies bring you to this place?”
