I really enjoyed solving this puzzle from Harribobs. As one of the testers of his Treasure Hunt crossword which appeared recently on the Crossword Centre I expected the end-game to be tricky. So it turned out to be. In fact, I spent a couple of days trying to do the changes with a set of coloured pencils. I just could not get it right.
In desperation I searched for a program that would do it. Luckily I found an iPad app called Golly. I put in the LIFE cells and pressed start. The app did the generations very quickly but I saw the word LIFE flash up on the screen. It was quite simple to go back and find that second generation and shade the cells on my grid.
Honestly, I don't feel guilty about using an app. Most probably the setter used a similar app to check his grid. Thank you Haribobs!
