aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Khaleesi apologized as soon as Hellene explained to her why her flowers were a different color than the ones that Daenerys had found. Tenderly, Hellene reached out to press her nares into her daughter's nape, her paws bringing her a step or two forward so that she could reach her. "There is no need to apologize, my love. Errors are part of the learning process, as long as you learn from your mistakes. You will never again mistake the colors of poppy, and will take care in differentiating different plants, so I am happy that you chose this one. Take heart, and this lesson to mind." Her heart was pained by the way her daughter's gaze remained averted, and felt a tinge of jealousy as she responded quickly to the other fae's encouraging smile. The timberess swallowed twice, getting her ego in check, before settling her gaze on them again as they took off, each of the femmes no doubt in search of whichever herb they did not find on their first venture.

Within minutes, they returned, her own daughter the first to return with the correct three plants in her maw, and she laid all of them at her feet. Daenerys was next, and followed suit, waiting patiently for the third student who was right behind her. Hellene continued the lesson, giving a rare brief smile to each of the vargs, proud that they had learned so quickly of the first three plants. To be sure, there were hundreds that they would have to learn, but it was a good start. In the absence of any other knowledge, garlic, poppy, and moss would be able to hopefully stabilize the patient, if only temporarily, until a more skilled healer arrived. Hellene paused, asking if there were any questions, but both Daenerys and Khalessi shook their heads 'no'. All three vargs began to work with their respective herbs, first tasting the garlic before then ingesting the poppy, and then mushing up the moss to use as poultice. She gazed over her pupils, and moved to her daughter's side when she was beckoned over. How am I doing? Am I doing okay? Do I need to fix anything? Hellene looked at Khaleesi's hind limb, which was covered in moss poultice. It was a little more liquid than needed, but it was still thick enough to hold together. "No, my darling, you are doing well. A poultice that is wet like this is good for wounds that you want to keep wet, such as for patients that have severe wounds that you will change the dressing on multiple times. A drier poultice would be good for smaller cuts, so that they dry quickly to become a sort of bandage or protective membrane against the environment." She smiled down at Khaleesi, laughing softly at her daughter's pupils which were beginning to dilate from the effects of the poppy.

Not a moment later, the other fae, Sebring, called to her. Hellene? How does this look? The timberess' pads moved from the ground, pushing her toward the opposing fae. Her amber gaze swept over the poultice which was drying nicely. "It looks good, but keep in mind if it is this thick the wound cannot breath at all." Sebring's maw opened with another question - Would it be possible to help stabilize a broken bone by putting a thin branch alongside the limb which casting to help keep it straight? Hellene's head cocked to a single side - it was a good question, but not an easy one to answer with words that her pupil would understand. Healing was so often a multifaceted problem, it wasn't always as simple as it sounded. "A poultice wouldn't stay strong enough for long to immobilize a limb - you would have to splint the leg for that. Poultice is to promote healing and protect the underlying damaged tissues, that's all. It can also draw out infection and any seeping fluids or moisten skin that is too dry, such as sunburns. But good work. As for a thin stick, that would help provide rigidity as long as they did not put much weight on it. If they did, the stick would likely break beneath their weight. You can instead use multiple sticks, though organizing them and wrapping them with vines can be difficult indeed. You could instead use a single larger item, such as a broken branch or perhaps a femur from a deer or elk carcass. Seeing as their own bones bear their weight so well, they are often good to use." Her voice ceased, a peaceful calm coming over them all.

The ess was surprised - she had not thought that she would enjoy teaching. She had done it only to please Kalgalath and because she had naturally believe that only her daughter would be interested in learning such a trade... but instead teaching had made her feel pride in her knowledge and useful. The more vargs that knew about healing the better. After all, Hellene was not the most graceful on her four pads and often injured herself. Who would take care of her were she to get seriously hurt? Or, perhaps worse, when she was no longer around to be the pack's healer?

Blinking her eyes, she broke from her trance and redirected her attention to her pupils once more. "I think that is enough today. Should you all like to learn more another day we certainly can. You only need to call to me, or for Khaleesi as she nearly always knows where I am. If there is anything in particular you would like to learn about, let me know so that I can find some samples for you or plant some here in the terra before winter hides them from our sight. Feel free to rest here until the poppy wears off - you shall all certainly sleep well under its covers. Before I leave, have any of you got any questions about what we learned about today?"
