Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

are the dead really silent?

My paws stopped their forward motion at the sound of movement around me. My other senses cannot pick up what is occurring, the scent and sight too muddled by the earth around us for me to be able to rely on either. For a moment my nose works hard to find what made the noise of rising from roots, but it was not until I saw the form of a white spirit coming from the ground did I understand. Interest filled my eyes like fire. I could feel the vibrant eyes alight with the fire of curiosity at this specktor. The tip of my tail twitches, as does the tip of my nose before I turn fully to face this other.

His white form at first confused me, resembling so closely the shadows of those who walked the world before us. But his scent, it was so earthly, so bound to the ground. He had come from the ground itself, dirt and roots covering his body. I look closer and can see his bones beneath his coat. Both our paws appeared to walk in the land of the dead.

Words seem nearly unnatural to this being, as unnatural as nature came naturally to others. I can feel my head twist in the silent question of why he felt the need to speak, if only those three words. There were other ways to seek answers and obtain them. Never rely on a betrayer, your voice can fool yourself as well as others.

“Life...brother.” I answer him simply. It continues to surprise me to hear my own voice, soft as calm air, cool as the autumn I love. Words are not strange to me, but I do like to use them sparingly. I watch his face and grin, my body shifts low, my tail lazy in the air. “Life, and laughter.”

My blazing eyes look into his muted ones, inviting him to dance with me back to life.
