Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Blackfoot
male 6 years 36 inches 145 pounds no mate no imprint taviora

Blackfoot certainly was not your common sort of wolf, not in the least - and certainly not from amongst the choices you had between wolves of Moladion. It was strong first impression, or at least that is what Halcyon’s face seemed to say, and Blackfoot was just mad-scientist enough not to seem to realize that he had baffled the boy just a bit. He was younger at heart than most healers, unwilling to let the somber and dire usefulness of his occupation make him the same. It did not suit him to be any more serious than the injuries he cured, after all.

“Greetings, Lord Blackfoot. I am Halcyon. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” Halcyon begins, and Blackfoot cannot help the sputtering chuckle that comes past his lips at the honorific he had chosen. “Oh, please, young buck -- you don’t need all that pomp and circumstance. Just Blackfoot is fine, yea?” He laughs more heartily as he looks at his large shell of items. “But it is good to also meet you, of course, of course.”

He breaks the ice, or so he thinks, further with the complement he meant with one hundred percent of his being. A nose for herbs makes him especially keen and he fights another chuckle as the young male trying to scent his own self. “Iromar has a lot of plants I’m sure you can add to your collection in your… turtle. Now that Taviora is one of our allies, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to visit. I don’t think Empress Aithne would mind. You might want to watch out for the alligators, though.”

Blackfoot pauses for a moment to look at Halcyon, the mention of alligators drawing him out of his teacher’s mindset for more than a couple seconds to ponder the thrill in his chest at the sound of Halcyon’s own hesitation. It is clear the danger is carefully considered in the young male’s face and it sends home the seriousness. “The Empress would be kind to invite a medicine man to take a gander, for certain. I would be most careful of the creatures of your kingdom, I assure you.” He notices just how on point the youth was with proper address and it made him wonder for a second if the manner of his own address had been at all faulty.

He does not shy away from the boy any more than he would shy away from any wolf intent on learning or being healed. He had become too neutral of mind to really suit any place, the biases all around being so strong as they are. He is a healer first, pack wolf second. It was who he was, not what he was. It made it especially hard to be seen as a boon being this way, but nevertheless here he is. Unabashed and never ashamed. He asked now about the purpose of this training and he watches Halcyon go back again into the proper young man.

“I must admit, I have never cared much to learn the art of medicine, but it is an essential skill I must learn if I am to grow stronger. ”

“I cannot take offense, young buck. Medicine is an art that many do not care to take the time to know… but this means I can teach you the broader spectrum, looser remedies, and the like. I will teach you field medicine, rather than the intense day to day upkeep. Your home will likely have it’s own apothecary for that.”

“Will I have to… catch my own turtle and carry things around like you?”

“Oh! My gods and earth boy, no,” he guffaws, but all wth the ringing good nature that an old friend might take with a long-time companion. “You I will teach another form of preparedness. I only bring this because I thought I might need a great many things for lessoning.” He chuckles, good nature always having been infectious (even for himself). “Now, that fretting alleviated… I imagine that the reason you even attempt this lesson, you wish to be a generalist, or what we call a Far Walker here in Taviora?”

It is clearly a rhetorical question, but he does not cut off any comment that the younger wolf might care to make. “How would you like to learn to make small poultices that can be created on the go, as you need?”

And another rhetorical question, as he seems to look around himself. “For instance, you are in a fight and headed home or your Empress has returned home with a dire wound from a battle to defend your home...” he says, seeming to ignore his large selection of items now that he realized what the boy intended with the knowledge he was given. “Always remember where you might find spiders web and moss,” he says as he trots to one end of the clearing to find a small web spread across the forest floor, swirling it onto a stick that he otherwise grabbed up on his trek to it’s place.

“This,” he says after he drops the stick of the strong and sticky material, “is the best thing for keeping a poultice together and to staunch bleeding. Be careful to not catch up too much nonsense in the threads, though, or you might accidentally dirty the wound more.”

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
