aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

I told you Hellene, I don't know pack rules as I've never been in a pack before. I'm sorry. Hellene dropped her facade, calming herself. Her visage turned away, embarrassed slightly that she had embarrassed him by reprimanding for disobeying law that he was not aware of. Hellene had grown up in packs for as long as she could remember and though she and Athene had managed to slip away from that way of life, searching for a land that they could call home. Searching for a pack that they could make into their own. But the pair of them had reached Blossom Forest and failed to move past in it - instead they got stuck in it. They got stuck in packs whose ways were unfamiliar to them. Their packs had been made up of positions that were more like jobs than hierarchies. It had been difficult to readjust, but finally she had. But for him to instead to have never experienced pack life? Hellene should be supporting him and helping him figure out it.

So instead, she moved to the pup's side, stopping him from retreating and formally accepted him into the pack as a member. He smiled at her and thanked her, getting more excited by the moment. "I am sorry, Universe, that I keep forgetting that. We should meet up again soon so that you and I, and Brendon as well, can discuss what it means to be in a pack so that you understand the rules. It will help you feel more at home, I think, if nothing is hidden from your knowledge." She smiled down at the pup. "It was nice to meet you, Brendon. I cannot wait to see how you grow. The pair of you should get to know each other better now, and I will leave you be." Silently, she left, returning to her pack for a midday nap, enjoying whatever remained of the nice autumn weather.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few months had passed since she had last seen Universe and Brendon. Aurora Borealis had been quiet as of late, the majority of the vargs preparing for the winter that they all knew would come. And yet it still had not. There had been a single day that had threatened to bring the snow, and perhaps a few flakes had even fallen, but then it had all cleared up. Still, all of the vargs were prepared for it. In all of the years that they had lived, not once had there been a year when there had not been a winter. Perhaps it had not visited them yet, but winter was indeed coming.
Hellene stirred from her warm den, moving from her son's side. Though he was an adult, he often still slept within her quarters for comfort. As soon as she left the confines of the cavern, though, the brisk morning wind cleared her mind swiftly. Hellene shook out her thick coat that was growing thicker by the day and shivered just a bit. Her fur kept her warm, but there was still a stark difference between the cavern and the outside. Hellene began to trot out, moving to the boundary, beginning to run her rounds.
