Sometimes, I had to admit, I did feel disconnected from the world. It was only natural, though, given that I could simply close my eyes and I could run away into my own world, imagining what it would be like to hear and to be... normal. It wasn't often that my deafness caused me such mental strife, but on days where I was alone, seemingly hiding from the world it was easy to slip into a cycle of self-deprecation, wondering what would be different if I could hear. Perhaps it wasn't terrible, these what-ifs, though I never spoke them to another soul. It would be counter-intuitive if I did so, if I was trying to make it so my disability did not define me, if I was trying to make it easy to overcome it.

My nose filled with the scent of another, suddenly, and my head snapped around, catching sight of the white-masked wolf standing next to me in the grassy hollow I had found. I studied him for a moment, and knew by his body language that he meant me no harm, but something in the depths of his eyes told of a thing deeper than our mortal plane. I was not adverse to spiritual things, having spent much of my short life in Taviora, but there was nothing that I believed in other than myself. Other than stories, and knowledge.

He almost seemed to beckon me, and so I stood, taking a few cautious steps towards the unfamiliar wolf who had since arrival not said a word. I wondered if he knew, as he seemed to know a lot of things. I did not know this wolf, at least not yet, but his presence was both frightening and familiar.

"My name is Alistair." I introduced myself, standing in front of the wolf nearly dwarfed by his significant size. "Who are you." I asked then, my head tilted curiously, my white eyes trained on his lips as I awaited a response. I was intensely curious of this wolf who had happened upon me.
