Seconds turned to minutes. How many passed he barely knew. Perhaps no more than a mere handful, perhaps hours. All he knew was that in that time the moon made its appearance. The complete darkness that had wrapped about him for a time was banished away. Just a scattering of clouds slid across the dark heavens, stars peeking down from above adding their faint twinkling light to the night encased lands. Like quicksilver the waterfalls shimmers with their new light. The sound of the crashing waters filled his ears, barely a thought cast to any others that might choose to be active that night. There was no interest in his mind to those others that may slip through the shadows also, not even boredom etched his features as he simply stood and stared.

Dark ears flickered idly, chiselled features dipping occasionally to sip once more at the silver waters, feeling the cool liquids sooth along his throat. Then, a clip of a hoof. So focused had he been upon the thunder of the falls, the spray of the waters filling his nostrils had the approaching sounds of another passed him by. A low snort fell from his chambers as he shifted his weight, powerful neck turning slowly only then noticing the heavy dampness that clung to his thick mane. That was what one got for standing so close to the tumbling waters it seemed.

Eyes had barely moved to seek his companion of the night as his thoughts were already returning to the falls. Then through the din arrived the softest of syllables, the gentlest of notes that might so easily have been roared over and lost. So easily ignored. Yet his gaze was drawn back to complete the path that it had begun and finally a stirring of emotion bubbled to the surface. Eyes took in the feminine form that approached, shedding the nights shadows as easily as they wrapped about him. The moons silver rays highlighting the shimmer of golden that made her. She was not a creature that belonged to the darkest empty hours. Of that he knew in an instant. She belonged under the sun for all to see. And yet this lady of the day had chosen to approach him, her tones lingering in his mind carrying pains he assumed alien to him.

Time had passed since her single word had been uttered, more time than would have been normal, settling to a uncomfortable silence. "'Lo." The short sound rasped from his throat, from vocals that had gone unused for sometime. The silence broken only by the falls descended again as he breathed her perfume upon the damp breeze, long dark tail swaying, contemplating slipping back away between the tree's. But such would be poor manners would it not? Manners he had never been taught, yet it did not take the brightest might to see that. "Pardon, I didn't think anyone would be about at such an hour." Certainly not young pretty mares that should have been safely tucked away within the net of their herds.
