He doesn’t so much think the child stupid so much as seek a way in which he might achieve the expression of understanding in the face of the child. It is a sorry thing that anyone might treat her differently for her differences, he loathes the thought of people treating another poorly who was so young and so unprepared to do the defending of their own person. “I'm Peregrine.”
Her voice is young and small, but I can hear the potential behind that soft sound. He knows that if he was so much greater than his youth, then she would be equally as destined for great things. He offers food in hopes of common ground and perhaps breaking the ice - and it works, thank heavens. “Yes please!” She exclaims, voice a little off and a little louder than necessary - confirming a diagnosis as he throws back his head in companionable laughter for her enthusiasm.
His tail wags like hers, him jumping to his feet with eyes cast about to find the first signs he could use for their little hunt. “Okay! Now. A good hunter would find the harem and then put you in the place to block out their escape. You ready? When you are, just make as much knows and dig as fast as you can… they come my way and you get fifty fifty of what we catch?”
He tilts his head and nods it towards the way they ought to creep, dropping down to a crouch to signal her to do much the same and then slowly inching forward with a wide arch so they can see the holes in the ground. “Shh, now. You see the big rabbit there? The one with the large back feet? Run straight for him -- I will find the exit.” He whispers slow and steady in speech. He intends for the child to feel the success he often did in a hunt - the younger she is taught, the better for her later. Treat her mature now so she can be mature when she needs to.
