Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Sleep had come, but it was light and full of half dreams the girl would not remember when she woke. The wind blew the chilly air through her fur, causing her to shuddered involuntarily, and she woke with a start. Bi-colored eyes scanned the area, noting the snow glittering off the light of the moon, to see what had woken her. Suddenly, she realized it hadn’t been a sound, but rather, a feeling. Her heart was hammering wildly in her chest and her breath was coming in quick, cloudy bursts. There was a slight pull in her muscles, like her body was forcing her to move, but she resisted. Panic began to feel her. Half asleep and alone, the girl didn’t realize the true meaning behind her body. It wasn’t until a wolf with the stars blended in his fur came into view that she finally understood.

Her imprint had arrived.

’No, not like this! I don’t want him to see me like this!’ she screamed to herself inside her own mind. How had he known where to find her? What was he doing here? What was in his mouth? Before any answers could be questioned, he dropped the fox and asked her one. Ears fell flat and she avoided his gaze, much like a child who is being lectured would. "I-I couldn’t find a den so I thought…" But before she could finish, he spoke again in a softer tone, telling her how she felt (literally) and nudging the dead animal towards her. She smiled weakly and took it, but didn’t eat. The situation was too… strange for her to eat just yet. Cocking her head to the side, she looked at Zaphkiel in the moonlight. "How did you find me?"

As he answered, the wind changed its direction and brought his scent closer to her. His whole life lay in his scent and she was able to tell in an instant how the last few years had treated him. The smell of trees and flowers, Taviora. Another wolfess, her smell was practically ingrained in his own. She must be his mate, and there, yes a hint but it is there. Children. Her imprint had made a family in her absence. He was as handsome as ever and well groomed, unlike Gaia who’s fur looked slightly mangy and her body was lean and firm. Eyes downcast, Gaia found herself ashamed all the sudden. What on earth could she do for him now? As a child, she had dreamed of being with him forever but that couldn’t happen now.

No! That girl was gone. The independent wolfess had replaced her and she would not let this drag her down. With a bit more effort than it should have been, the russet girl looked up at her imprint and smiled. "Thank you, Zaphkiel . I was quite hungry. Tell me, how have you been? Is Taviora still allied with my parent’s pack?" She picked the fur off the fox and began to eat the still warm meat as she listened to what her imprint had to say.
