“Maziel!” Snapped Mariael, surprised, turning her head about to watch as her blind half-sister began cautiously moving toward them, ears pressed forward to likely catch the sound of their breath, of the breeze brushing ‘cross their bodies, locating where they stood so she did not bump into either of them. She came along her sister’s right side and affectionately bumped Mariael’s shoulder.
Mariael didn’t like it. Not one bit. They didn’t know this colt, they didn’t know if he was playing at some sort of cruel game. What if they went wandering the trails and Maziel got hurt? What if they went too far from the herd and couldn’t find their way back?
But Maziel’s coat slid along hers as she began to walk forward, intending to meet the colt where he stood, and Mariael had no choice. She would have to scold Maziel later in private, after they’d returned from this ordeal. If they returned. She eyed Samhain with squinted eyes, chin still raised. “I’m warning you now, Samhain, if you try anything cruel I won’t hesitate to give you what you deserve.”
