Silas

Silas tilted his head to the right, his lazy ear shifting to partially cover his eye in a way he had become somewhat accustomed to. He had thought little and less about why the ear had never stood up properly like its counterpart, he only knew that it was just another thing that made him different from his brother and parents. Brilliant blue optics remain trained upon the other boy despite the way the ear has infringed upon his line of vision like an unmanageable fringe.
Again the boy speaks, this time his odd speech pattern directed at Silas. Righting his tonal draped head, he blinks and squints at the child who stood opposite to him. Other than these shifts of his head he has not moved at all, revealing no more of himself than the cranium that gave the illusion of floating in the tall grasses that he protruded from. Friends? It is a new concept to him, one he has not really had reason or care to wonder over. He has his brother, his mother, his father, what more did he need? Brows knitted together at the idea, not entirely sure if he wanted to welcome this boy into his inner circle. The odd idiosyncrasy of the child's speech pattern holds Silas' attention, though, and he held his tongue, listening as the first coherent sentence is spoken.
Almost immediately, however, he slips back into the strange way of speaking, and the bridge of Silas' nose wrinkled indignantly. A sleepy ear? His brows lifted, still partially stitched together as he watched the boy fold over his own ear to mimic the unusual appendage. Well, if his ear was sleepy than without a doubt this boy had a sleepy tongue; yes, perhaps that was why he could not speak properly. With the thought he immediately relaxed, realizing the boy just had something different about him, like himself.
The judgment that had been forming in his young mind seemed to wither away and all at once SIlas pounced forward, extending a single paw to bat at the other's shoulder, answering all his questions with a single exultation. "Tag!" And then he is off, sprinting past the rainbow child and proving that while he might have a sleepy ear, his lengthening legs were anything but.
