PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

YOU LEFT ME IN THE DARK

IMPAZIENZA

“Ah,” she said when the yearling explained. Impazienza was familiar with the protective tendencies of parents. She’d never experienced it herself, but had been witness to it a number of times and was aware that it was common. Having never borne children of her own, nor raised any —Imp being the exception— the Prime Minister did not fully understand what it was about parents that made them so reluctant to trust their children to be safe. The tiniest frown crossed her lips as she considered the young mare before her. This one, especially, seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. Impazienza spent a moment cataloguing who she knew on the mountain and which of them seemed likely to be the mother of this girl. Ysabella was the wrong build, and Inka had never struck the draft mare as paranoid or overprotective.

She resolved for the umpteenth time to get to know the others in her herd.

“There are always options,” she reassured the girl as her lips curled upward in a small but warm smile. “And here is one, if you’re interested. I’ll come with you off this mountain and we can go anywhere you like. Even off the Crossing, if that’s your desire.” Was it her place to offer to travel with a child not her own? Impazienza considered it, but only briefly. Someone had to, if the girl’s mother would not oversee her own child’s venturing into the world and discouraged it, whether that was done unconsciously or not. It was obvious the Peak did not feel like home to her, and it was only a matter of time before the young mare reached maturity and departed whether her mother wanted her to or not.

Impazienza might be aging, but she was not so old she could not still kick or bite or use her words to deter potential trouble. Few bothered a horse as large as her anyway: she was too tall, too hefty for anyone to truly desire her company, and if she hung back just enough so no one immediately associated her with the yearling, maybe the girl would be able to make some friends off the mountain. Or they could wander together; maybe having the yearling at her side would embolden some to come and converse despite the blanketed mare’s massive build.

“What would you like to do?” she asked.
