Yours sincerely..

He barely paid more than a passing thought to the presence that passed nearby, a small flick of his dark ears recognising that he was no longer alone. Yet he did not lift his head, did not make the smallest effort to turn and investigate just who else shared the mornings new light. If it were down to him the midnight stallion would have remained ignored and forgotten, yet of course life was never so simple. It was not like that night that sad golden form had slide up beside him. She could not be ignored in an entirely different manner. Her light had shone through her voice had been but a whisper through the shadows, a whisper that had tugged at something within him. Long forgotten and buried away.

From his reflection eyes slowly lifted to turn and locate the dark figure that had invaded his silence. With practised ease he had barely blinked at the perfume the winds had wafted upon him, too locked within his own private universe. Yet abruptly there came those words that refuse to be ignore chiming through the morning air. Chiselled features rose and turned slowly, twin empty pools sliding over the feminine creature before him. A sliver of confusion nudged through the stallions consciousness at the amiable features directed towards him. Should she not be wary? Cold? Nervous? With the cool kiss of autumn still in the air. Yet then his night time visitor had not. But neither had she greeted him with such warmth as though they were long lost friends as he face now, a smile as bright as the day that promised to creep up upon them and words far warmer than the night he had faced alone.

Silent and still as ever his eyes studied the lady that appeared near as dark as he in the pale growing light, evidently in no rush to offer a response. Away his gaze finally slid to scan across the falls as though taking them in for the first time, yet still no splash of marvel hinted across his features. "I suppose." Dull and empty, though his words suggested agreement it was evident he cared little for the day rising over them. He observed the night shadows vanishing away, the banishing of the darkness he'd come to claim as his own. Once more the day crept in, and there beneath the pale golden ray he could not hide his dark form.

Stilled limbs slowly stirred withdrawing him a pace from the water’s edge. From the corner of his vision he could still see the mare, yet felt no inclination to engage her further. But was not that what was supposed to done? Yet the art of conversation had always to fail the ebony brute. At least so he believed, and most would agree. "I prefer the night."
