The Grotto

Psyche was careful to step tactfully in this place, The Grotto they called it. Her small size came in use when traveling a place like this. Her weight was less likely to jostle anything that would result in a cave in. There weren’t as many scents here as there were in Mecor Valley, but there were still so many that it was hard for her to focus on any one. It was like a strong perfume overpowering her senses. She had been walking for damn near most the day, with no interesting wolves in sight. She glances at the many caves around her, just looking at them made her skin crawl. But as the cold icy ground bites at her paw pads she decides to investigate one of the dark caves opening its black mouth out to her.
The sound of water hitting rock was a constant in her ears. The Grotto was full of waterfalls, big and small alike. When the one behind her started to fade away another would enter her range of hearing. She had thought that entering the cave would present her with some quietness, but the sound of water droplets splashing against stone echoed through the darkness and she was given no silence. Psyche walks silently, her strides so light she can’t even hear herself. She is tentative about where she puts her feet, cautious of black holes in the ground that would swallow her up. It seems the cave is never ending and she sits on the cold hard ground.
The darkness seemed to engulf her, making her second guess her decision to crawl into this hole. But it seems her decision was a good one as moments later she hears the quiet footsteps of another wolf. She crouches down onto her belly, her fur does little to protect from the rough ground beneath her. As she lies there the echoes of a growl bounce off the invisible walls around her. She wanders what caused it, ”Maybe he caught a whiff of my scent.” She thinks to herself as she looks straight ahead, hoping that she’d be able to see an outline of the wolf. As his footsteps come closer she shifts her paw into a more comfortable position, causing a rock to skid away from her touch. "Shit…" she says, knowing he must have heard it.
She pauses for but a moment, "Who goes there..?" She puts for an effort to make her voice sound bigger. She creeps closer to the stranger, her footsteps silent as the night is dark, and her breathing is the only thing that could give her away. Her eyes have adjusted to the darkness and she can vaguely see the male, immediately she can tell he is bigger than her. She can’t see much else other than some white markings. In this cave lighting she could hardly tell where they were on his body. She remains tense, she’s unable to tell if this was a friend or foe and if she didn’t keep on her toes she wouldn’t be able to dart to safety at last second. She waits for him to respond, eyes and ears locked to him.
