A Bittersweet Goodbye [Vodnik]

D E L I N Q U E N T
Loneliness, she was familiar with the word. It was unnatural; the inner struggle inside threatening to tear you apart right where you stand. Yes, she was very familiar with the feeling, as her heart and her trust had both been ripped from her multiple times now. She couldn't trust anyone to fill the void of emptiness in her. She didn't have a home so she simple wandered, but what about the Lagoon? She falters in her walking, thinking of the dark and dreary place that had once been a safe haven, but then her ears remembered the pain filled squeal that came from her mother, the sound of skin hitting skin and watching as blood ran down her mother's face as she limped away. It wasn't safe there, and a small part of Deli was glad Felony had traded her off when he had. Was her mother still there though, locked away like her father wanted her to be? Deli didn't have the heart to go back, instead continuing on moving forward and not looking back.

Her legs carried her to the ocean, the water cold but she braved on lost in her thoughts and memories. Dexter had won her heart, partners in crime she had joked, and he had done his best at being her companion until he left her with their daughter Dara. Deli often wondered where the girl had gone once reaching maturity but it was away from Delinquent and that was the only thing that mattered. Maybe she found Dexter herself, if he wasn't dead already; Deli didn't want to know, didn't want her heart to break more than it had so she shrugged off being abandoned and went on her way. Keep moving and don't ever look back, was what she told herself now. Wrapped up in her thoughts she doesn't take notice of the swell of waves creeping up until its too late and they crash down on her, giving her no room to fight; like she even tried, allowing herself to lose consciousness as the waves dragged and pulled at her. The last thing her eyes saw before she pulled under once more was the faint shape of one of the islands.

By some miracle or fate who had a cruel sense of humor of not granting death to the lonely, the waves spat her out onto the sandy beaches of Atlantis, though she doesn't know this as she had never been beyond Tinuvel. She sputters and coughs up the salty liquid that had been choking her, sides heaving with the tiring effort. Golden orbs frantically look everywhere once her coughing fit is over and she can pull herself up, shivering under the winter chill. Swimming in such weather was incredibly stupid but she hadn't wanted to remain on the crossing when she had nothing left for her there. The sight of trees urged her on, and she slowly dragged her wet and battered body into the safety of them, away from the wind but it didn't help. Deli could have stopped to preserve her strength but what was the point when you had nothing left to live for? She would tempt fate once more as she journeyed on.
