Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Together, the pair of wolves sat on the rock and watch the world burn as the sun sank lower and lower into the horizon. Soon, night would claim the skies and the chill would make it hard for anything to stay out. Winter could be a cruel to those who could not handle the cold and Gaia was one of them. She had been given a balance of her parent’s fur, but it wasn’t enough to keep her warm. She needed a den or a mate to snuggle with but had neither. She did what she could to survive and thus far things had been alright.

Phaedra speaks of life and death, reminding the girl that nothing can last forever. Gaia does not reply as she thinks on those words. All life must end one day, but why did their lives have to be cut so short? They had so many years left to give to Moladion but it ended far too soon. It made her regret not giving them the time of day several years ago. It also made her realize that life could end in the blink of an eye. She needed to cherish her life and the things in it that made her happy. Who knew when fate would swoop in and take it all away from her again.

More silence spreads out between them, but it is not uncomfortable. Both are quiet in their thoughts but still providing the other with the company a wolf desires. Ever slowly, the sun continues its descent, the stars already coming out above them. Gaia’s ears turned to the larger wolfess as she spoke and she found herself nodding in understanding. Though she was not as wise as the other, she did know that the light of the sun gave life to all. It allowed the grass to grow, which fed the deer, which fed the wolf.

Bi-colored eyes stared up at another pair of sunsets as the other continued to speak. When she finished, the girl thought long and hard about what was said. Perhaps she might interpret what was said to her differently, but in the end, she knew that she needed to remember the light that had been her life. “Thank you. You are truly a wise wolf with much to give to others. I find myself being comforted by your knowledge and know that I will remember that light. I will hold it close as it fades to dusk and know that, in time, a new dawn will rise again.” Again, there is silence. The sun has gone and the world is cast in shadow. Stars flicker to life and shine brightly overhead and Gaia finds herself drawn to them. “Even in the darkest of nights, there is always some light to show us that life will always go on.” A pair of stars twinkle side by side and the daughter of a legacy smiles as they shine down on her.
